Hello!
I have a Humax Series 2 TIVO (with DVD burner) hooked up to my newly acquired DirecTV H20 Receiver using the IR cables. I have been unsuccessfully running the guided setup, where the main problem is that the TIVO is unable to change the channels on the satellite receiver. I came across this site reading a thread about problems with channel changing, and when I came to post, I'm lost as to where I should have put this. Sorry in advance! In all my years, I sheepishly admit this is my first post!

Anyway, I've read posts that suggest moving the IR cables to the right of the IR receiver on the satellite box, and that just doesn't seem to be working. I've tried the IR tent, but even though that doesn't work, this box (my 2nd one in a week) seems to run WAAY too hot for that. The odd thing is, sometimes, the TIVO seems to get one or two of the digits sent (and received) of the three digit satelliete channel, but never the whole channel digit combination and therefore fails.

I've also read about IR codes, but I'm unsure where that would come into play, seeming as I have not seen a place to input that information in the guided setup.

If it helps, I have successfully set up my H21-200 DTV receiver with my TIVO Series 2 box in the bedroom...no problems, no issues, with IR cables and no tent. I just feel like I sound like an idiot here, lol.

I don't feel as utterly devoid of finding a viable solution as I did when it first didnt' work. It seems this box does in fact work with this particular DTV box, but at the moment, I've hit a wall with solutions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The H20 is different, with a different forum... start here

John, the H20 is not the HR20. Please don't be so quick to redirect people.

Discussion of using TiVo standalone boxes with separate satellite receivers is best done in the TCF Help Center (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=4).

I am very well aware of the difference, and I did not say anything about the HR20... I said "start here"

Doing so leads to this forum... which IS for the H20

But the issue here is connecting the TiVo...

But the issue here is connecting the TiVo...

From the original...
Humax Series 2 TIVO (with DVD burner) <snip> unable to change the channels on the satellite receiver <which is the H20>

Neither of those is a DirecTV with Tivo... but one of those IS the equipment discussed at the dbtalk forum... so I pointed to the where the H20 forum could be found

You pointed to yet another forum

In both cases... forums that were more closely matched to the equipment

I think pointing to a standalone TiVo forum for this issue is more helpful than pointing to the H20 forum, since the issue is the TiVo's inability to change channels. I have noted that you are quick to redirect people to the dbstalk forum for TiVo-related issues just because a DirecTV receiver is involved.

I agree that this forum section is not the best choice for this question, but I can understand the confusion as the title is ambiguous for those who don't already know the distinction.

John was just trying to sent him where he would get an answer as opposed to here where he may or may not find an answer. You also redirected him. Your time would be better spent getting the name of this forum changed than picking on someone for trying to help.
