View Full Version : Philips DSR6000R died
My Philips DSR6000R started freezing like I've read so many others have.
I replaced it with a Hughes SD-DVR80 and I'm wondering if the same problems will occur with this unit.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this??

Yes, once it updates to 6.3 the DVR-80 will likely give you the same periodic problems that the rest of us are having. You may want to consider replacing the hard drive in the series 1. Believe it or not the series 1 units are more dependable at this time. My mom has a completely original DSR6000 that has not give us any problems to date (other then a fan) but both of my series 2 units reboot every couple of days... You may consider keeping the DVR-80 unplugged from the phone line. If you are lucky it is at software version 6.2 or lower. Unplugging the phone line will keep it from updating to 6.3 and you will be in good shape.
good luck,

The DSR6000R is a series one unit and the DVR80 is a series 2. If the hard drive starts to fail, then you will have the same symptoms. You could resurrect the DSR with a drive replacement.

R.I.P. little buddy
I have 3 still kicking. Replace the drive
If I replace the drive won't it be a matter of time until the software causes it to start acting up again?

Nope, S1 combo boxes have software version 3.x, which doesn't have the problems that the S2 boxes are currently experiencing with version 6.3.

Since the Philips with Ver 3.x started acting up I assumed it was from the software. If I understand correctly, then my unit's failure must be a bad hard drive??
I'm confussed on Ver 6.3. Is that TIVO or DT software?

I'm confussed on Ver 6.3. Is that TIVO or DT software?Directv software is TiVo software made under contract to Directv. Yes all you need is a new disk with a Philips 6000 image on it. if you want you can buy the disk with image installed from www.dvrupgrade.com. It will come ready to run. All you have to do is run setup.:)

Will the update to 6.3 be ok with Philips DSR 7000?

I'm having the same issue on my DSR6000R, and have started to look at dvrupgrade for a replacement drive... I have a quick question - I remember a while back when I was looking at adding hard drive space, that you had to figure out whether your Tivo had 1 or 2 hard drives... is that also an issue if I'm replacing the hard drive ?
Thanks.
