View Full Version : TiVo suddenly forgets radio stations

Well, sort of.
I did the thing to get radio stations recorded via SCART and at first it kept giving me a "The recorded cannot display Live TV" blue screen when going to one - even though it WAS actually changing channel properly, but then after a few days it suddenly righted itself and I could record and switch channels normally as you'd expect.
The last time it worked was for Pick of the Pops on Radio 2 on Sunday, and tonight it was meant to record Jeremy Hardy on BBC7 (which worked fine last week) and it's back to its old blue screen trick as above.
Does anyone else get their machine misbehaving like this, and how do I correct it, please? Ta.

Have you tried powering off your TiVo and powering it back on again with both STBs connected and outputting a signal?
Sometimes the TiVo needs to be able to 'see' the input on a SCART during its hardware startup phase for it to register the source as active.

D'oh! Just realised what I've done, when you said to check the inputs. I was trying to solve a ghosting issue* and one thing I did was unplug the RF lead that was going into the TiVo, thinking that since I'm getting the radio via SCART like any Sky channel then the RF doesn't matter. I was wrong :)
Ta muchly for that.
(*I thought it was a similar thing to my original TiVo with the damaged SCART but the line ghosting across was sometimes going left-to-right and sometimes right-to-left, and there's also ghosting on the picture caused whenever either my Xbox is playing an mpg file (but not avi or wmv), and also when my Xbox 360 is playing a game and sounds like a wind tunnel.... turns out, my Panasonic TXW32R4 TV is the problem, and it's rather unavoidable until I... erm... buy a new TV)

Was that also the cause of your picture or sound problems with the earlier Tivo or was the popping down to a fault on the Tivo itself and has that now been eliminated by the replacement Tivo?
As to a new tv 42" widescreen Plasmas from big names will I am sure be going for some amazingly low prices in the January sales. Having said that the larger you go the more you show up an SD picture so may be a 37" Plasma would be the best bet.

No and, sadly, no :(
Must be something that would be classed as a 'feature' as it's happened on two machines now. A lot of people might be experiencing it but not realising it because it's one of those things you don't notice at first, but when you do then you can't escape it - rather like the cue dots at a reel change in the cinema.

Bigger than a 32" won't really fit, and I don't like the processed look a flatscreen gives - it makes everything look like they've stuck that crappy 'filmising' thing over something shot on video (like they've started doing again to Casualty).
And now, just to make things a real pain, I think the sound's going on the Panny as the right-speaker went about 30 mins ago and hasn't come back yet (it occasionally drops out, but hasn't been this long before). I could plug the speaker connections into the TiVo rather than the TV (and I probably won't have a choice now) but that'll knacker trying to watch anything else watched directly via the TV through the amp, and also the TiVo's audio out is usually hooked up to the PC to record radio shows. Grrrr! :(

(types as quietly as the two spacemen whisper in 2001) the sound's come back now. Don't tell the telly! :)
Edit: Scratch that - must've been a slightly loose SCART...

Hmmm...
I had $ky HD installed on Sunday (the Comet £99 offer was too good to pass up).
I'm still using the Tivo to control most viewing. The HD stuff is a bit sparse at the moment...
The only problem seemed to be that I had to change the Remote code from 20016 to 20017 to get the TiVo to control the HD box - I assume I no longer get the Sky-Key being sent at the beginning of each channel change?
Everything else seemed ok.
However it did not record a regular radio programme this morning. Looking at this thread I thought I'd solved it - I had not connected the RF lead "what do I need that for?" Seemed the same "issue" as above and I thought I'd fixed it. (The TiVo had recorded the TV channel with the same number instead).
However connecting the RF lead again doesn't seem to have done anything.
I can't get the TiVo to go to the radio channel. Pressing channel-up does nothing on the first try (although the banner shows with the radio channel, the numbers don't come up at the bottom of the screen) , and pressing channel up again skips to the next TV channel.
I have rebooted since re-connecting the RF lead.
What have I missed?

Update:
Actually, having read the instructions again ( http://www.garysargent.co.uk/tivo/skyradio.htm )
I had it recording over scart anyway, so I didn't need the RF lead...
Edit:
Update again - Fixed it :)
Reading Gary's instructions - I had not changed the remote code to 20058 for the radio channels (Doh!)
Seems to be working now :)
Leaving this here for other's who might be going through the same pain... Might save their embarrasment :)
