I currently have a HDVR2 with a 250 gig HD.

I purchased the HD because i was getting pixelation and thought the HD was dying. Turns out I have the same tuner dying problem that many others have on that unit. I don't have S-Video, so pulling that does not help me as it has many others.

So, I purchased a HDVR2 on fleabay. Except, that is not what the person sent me. Instead, they sent me a SD-DVR40.

So, my question is this:
Can I swap my old large HD from the HDVR2 into the SD-DVR40?

From searching, I gather that I will not be able to play anything on the DVR40 that was recorded on the HDVR2 unless I hack one or both. I am OK if I lose the recordings as part of the transition. I am not into the hacking thing, unless that is my absolute last resort.

What I really want is just to swap the HD and have the large capicity in the DVR40 with 2 tuners that work...

Thanks for your help...

M

Just put the HDVR2 drive into the SD-DVR40 unit go through setup and do a Clear and Delete everything. The only difference is SD-DVR40 has an RID chip.:)

I'm looking at doing the same thing here. My HDVR2 was killed by lightning, and we had a SD-DVR40 left over from when my father upgraded to HD.

I tried the drive from the HDVR2 (upgraded larger drive) in the 40, but got an error about hardware (it's been a while since I tried)

If I try this, using the Clear and Delete All, will my season passes, Wishlists, etc also be lost, or just the old recorded content? If so, is there a way to get the HDVR2 drive working without losing SP, WL, etc?

So the Clear and Delete All does NOT clear Season Passes, Wishlists, etc?

So the Clear and Delete All does NOT clear Season Passes, Wishlists, etc?No it deletes everything. You will have to reinstall them.

Bummer. No way to just delete the recordings? Oh well, I'll probably do it just to get the extra space.

Not without hacking.

Should you choose to hack it, you can run a script that marries the drive encryption to the new system, without deleting anything except recordings, which you can manually delete.
