Hi,

I am now the proud owner of a Samsung HD-TV. I currently don't have the HD feed and was thinking about ordering. Any advice as to what is a good strategy to getting a good deal on the hardware? Besides a DVR, what other hardware will I need? I currently have the 3-lnb dish and a microswitch, will these have to be changed out?
Am I resigned to signing up for a new 2-year contract? I would prefer not to as I could be getting FIOS TV soon. I would appreciate any advice. I have not been able to find much info about current DTV subscribers wanting to upgrade to DTV. There is a lot of info for current HD subscribers wanting to switch DVR's. I appreciate any advice. Thanks a lot.

D

You will need a 5-lnb dish, and new multiswich. Yes you will have to do a 2 year contract. I recently did this and got one of their DVR+s. It is not that bad but it is not Tivo as others will quickly point out.

Did you get the HR-20? Laso how much did you have to pay for it and did you get any discounts extras etc.?

Yes I got the HR20 for $199, with some discounts for a year. It was a good offer for me. YMMV. HD looks great.

There's lots of info on dbstalk about the D* DVRs, and even very good suggestions on how to 'upgrade'.

I did my upgrade in October. Got the HR20 for free and one year of HD for free as well (they are charging 9.99 for it though).

I miss my DTivo in many ways, but it's still a step up for me, specially with all the new HD channels.

My 2nd DVR is an R10 so I still hang around here occasionally :)

BTW, I'm a 5+ year customer but only on base plans (no premiums)...

Good luck...

so if you still have the directv dvr with tivo.. IE R10's.. For example I have 3 currently all networked.. If i change one out to an HR20 will it be able to pull shows from the existing r10's on my network?

Or am I going to have to use the 3rd r10 ..non subscribed just using it to transfer shows and watch on HDTV like a standalone?

thanks

The HR20 does not support MRV - yet.
