Sorry if this topic has been covered elsewhere, I did spend time searching before this post -

I have received my second automated phone call from DTV advising that I need to replace my Tivo units (2-HDVR2's, 1-HR10, 1-HR10-250 and an old Sony SAT T60) if I wish to receive HD programming. As much as I like (luv?) my Tivo's, HD programming is a huge must have. I was hoping that Tivo would come out with an MPEG4 unit but that does not appear to be anytime soon if at all.

For others who have received the same phone call, what model DTV DVR was offered? Is one better than another? What cost if any was there to make the switch and if there is a cost what cost can I realistically hold out for/expect to pay? Since all of my Tivo's are owned and not leased it does not seem fair to have to "give" them to DTV. What do I have to do or say to DTV to keep them? Will I "own" the new DTV DVR(s) or will I now be "leasing" them?

I am really not looking forward to doing this (giving up my Tivo's) as even my wife who is, "electronically challenged" was able to figure out and use our Tivo's from day 1.

Regardless of what happens, you keep your tivos. Directv doesn't want them back. If you live in the LA local market, they'll swap your boxes for free right now. If you live elsewhere, they may ask regular price on the swap ($299), but your length of time as a customer and pay history are good bargaining chips.
