I work at Best Buy and we just got a new external Hard Drive that has the Tivo Logo all over . I have a DirectTv Tivo and a DirectTv DVR, can I hook this external hard drive to either one of these? If so can I then hook the drive to my Pc and Download shows into it? If not can I use a normal external USB in any way without doing a major overhaul and my DVRs. Please let me know asap, thanks.

The answer to the first question is no. The Western Digital Drive with the Tivo logo is designed for use with the Series3 and TivoHD units.
As far as transferring shows with a DirecTivo, I am out of my element, as I have cable. Check the DirecTivo threads for some more insight, but the drive you are looking at is not designed for satellite Tivo usage.

No, you can't use an external drive with the DirecTivo. Don't know about the DirecTV DVR, because it's not a Tivo and only Tivo's are discussed in this forum.

You can discuss HR20's here, read the sticky
Ask away
I'm actually debating about hooking up an external drive to my HR20

Actually, there's a new sticky either here or in the HD forum that says we CAN discuss the non-TiVo DVRs. However, there's far more information available in the dbstalk.com forums.
To my knowledge, the only DVR that will take an (eSATA) external hard drive is the HR20/21 HDDVR and it will REPLACE the internal drive, not add to it.
As I said, much more info can be found at http://dbstalk.com

I read that sticky as covering comparisons or in relation to DTivo, but NOT general discussion of DirecTV's non-Tivo boxes

Although discussions are now allowed, the other site has more experience with the non-TiVo DVRs. It will be awhile before the members here get up to speed, unless we are members on both forums. :) But, even then it is better, in my opinion, to keep discussions on one site.
