I have dirctv as my provider, What i want to do is record two shows at once in (HD) without losing the ease of the tivo software.
Is there anyway to do that with any (standalone?) tivo box ?
I have had the dirctv rca hr40 with tivo service for years now, and i dont want to give up the ease of tivo.

If you want to get the new MPEG4 channels, you have no choice but to get an HR20/21 from D*.

The only HD option with TiVo is the HR10-250, but that will only receive MPEG2 HD programming.

There is no way to record from D* using a standalone TiVo as the boxes available are cable + OTA only.

Become a significant (not necessarily majority) shareholder in DirecTV and lobby your co-shareholders to go back to TiVo.

You have to understand all Directv customers who are using Directv DVR's and have never had a TiVo have no idea what a good service is. Unlike Tivo which has continued to develop & improve its product, NMS ( newscorp) appears to have stopped all development. Most of the original complaints still exist.

And that is just not true, rbtravis.

Almost each week there is a new "beta" software to download via the satellite stream into the HR20 for wide-spread testing. It's called Cutting Edge (CE), and it's working great for getting several bug fixes and many new enhancements added to the DirecTV HD DVR. Once it has passed the beta testing, it becomes the National Release (NR).

Hey, I love TiVo too. I still have a DirecTiVo Hughes HDVR2 and yes, I still love it.

But I couldn't let a comment like that go by without some sort of correction.

Thank you, I stand corrected, I only use TiVo, so I am biased.:(

Indeed, I've seen more new features appear on my HR20 in the past two months than I have on my HR10 in the past two years.

Hey at least they send it out as beta to certain units instead of doing them all without testing like they have been on the DTivos (as many of you think). If they had done that maybe there would not be as many "the update did ...... to my DTivo" posts. They are also testing new features before a big rollout. You all just can't be pleased, they send out a software update and you all complain it did this and that to my unit, but on the nontivo units they send out beta version before a big rollout and you all start with Gee that just tells me how bad they are.... ??????
