Hi folks. My HDVR2 was dead and Directv replace it with a R15 unit. It seems pretty good with the new function until I try to record something. Please tell me if it is the machine or am I missing something since the rep. at Directv doesn't know much about it rather than reading the manual.

1. I try to record Judge Judy which appear on the guide at 4:00, 4:30 & & 7:30. My wife wants to record all of them. I set up a series recording and it only catch some of the show but not all even I select both (repeat and first run). I call Directv and they told me only shows that are series (CSI, Numbers etc) will be able to setup as a series, the rest will not. Is that true?

2. When I try to setup manual recording (to bypass the series limit), it will only allow me to keep 5 eposides. In other word, if I setup the DVR to record M-F, 4-4:30 pm, it will record but the next week come along, it will start deleting the previous show. The rep. at Directv tell me there is nothing I can do but watch the show fast before it get deleted!

The setup seems to be so dumb compare to the HDVR2 old unit. Am I missing something? Please help.

Thanks in advance.

This is a TiVo forum. I suggest you go to the R15 Forum on WWW.DBSTalk.com to get your R15 questions answered, they are better qualified. When it comes to TiVo we are like the Marboro men, We would rather fix than switch.:)

1) True, only series can be set up to record this way.

2) You can change the number of recordings to keep in the setup.

All I know is both of my series2 DTivo units record everything I ask perfectly! That's because you are in the middle of the country.

If you look at the responses, most of the problems are with locals in the "major" marekets on either coast.

I don't know why that is, but it's what is coming up.

For your #1:

The DVR+ series will not record "duplicates".
So if the guide data is coded in a way, that the units think that airing episode is the same as one on the hard drive already, it will not re-record it.

It does this by looking at the series/episode information that is part of the guide data.
So depending on your locals data input (if they add all the necessary data), it may result in the situation you are seeing.

2) Yes, Manual auto-repeating records are maxed at 5

Thanks for all the reply. I am so silly that I forget the replacement Directv send me is not a tivo unit. I get so use to my HDVR2 that this DVR seem bothersome. I look around at my local store (Circut City where I get my HDVR2 in the first place years ago) and the sales person told me Directv is no longer has any unit with tivo in it.
Is it true? Does it mean beside buying a used unit (Ebay etc.), if I want a new tivo unit, I need to buy a unit from Tivo, pay a monthly fee to tivo and also pay Directv along with the DVR fee? Thanks.

You're a bit late to the party... Directv quit making units with Tivo software over 2 years ago.
