Hi,
I am completely new to Tivo and not sure of the rules of this forum or even the laws regarding copyright materials.
I do have a Series 2 and Series 3 Tivo along with a Mac laptop (and a PC), and just recently purchased Tivo ToGo and d/l'd the free tivo desktop app.
Question,
I was able to move a tv show from the Series 2 and 3 to the laptop, but how would I move it back to the tivo for later tv viewing? Does this conversation violate Forum rules? Laws? I just want to be able to free up Tivo hdd space and also preserve some recordings for future viewing but haven't yet figured out how to move content Back to the Tivo...and help would be appreciated, thanks.
I am also assuming that because i can legally move content from the Tivo to the laptop that I should legally be able to move it back, no?
If i am in violation, please forgive me (and let me know) so I wont repeat the mistake, thanks again.

You don't really move shows, you copy to a new location--computer or another TiVo. You have to do it from the destination unit. The orginal stays where it was. You will have to go the host location if you want to delete it after you copied it elsewhere.
It can stay on the host and at the new location(s). If you aren't allowed to copy it, it will let you know with a red circle with at line through it. If you try away it will yell at you with a bong and a notice that the owners of the copyright won't let you do it. If you are allowed to copy you can only do it on units on the same account and MAK.

Tivo ToGo or would I need another app? Is there a simple explanation explaining how to move it back to the Tivo with Tivo ToGo? Any input would be appreciated!
TIA,

To get it back on the TiVo after you have deleted is just like copying back to the TiVo you want it on. Go to the NPL screen of the unit you want to copy it to, go to the devices at the bottom of the list, select the computer or any other device that might have the show, wait for the list on the device to be populated, select the show you want and transfer in to the Tivo you are doing this from.
This is assuming you have set up TTG on your computer with your MAK and allowed transfers on the TTG set up and on the TiVo website for your all the Tivoes you want to allow transfers.
Putting the show back on a TiVo after you have copied it to the computer is just like moving from another TiVo. You don't even have to copy it back on the TiVo where it was recorded.
Transfer or move are sort of a misnomers. It is really copy and paste. The show stays on the source and is copied to the destination. It works to the computer from a TiVo and also from a TiVo to the computer. It think it will work even from computer to computer.
You have to start at the place you want to show to be and copy from the place it really is. You work at the destination not the source.

The tivos do not list the laptop in their Now Playing List, but the Tivo's do show the other Tivo being listed and able to be read from each other...In the Tivo ToGo Mac program I can see both Tivo's (that connection is fine) and i am able to save programs to the laptop from both Tivo's, but because i cant see the laptop from the Tivo "Now Playing list" of either Tivo I cant save the files back to the Tivo...that's where I'm stuck.
BTW, I have a Series 2 and Series 3.

How do I use it?
Make sure TiVo Desktop is installed on your Windows or Mac.
Under Windows, you put video files in the "My TiVo Recordings" (typically under My Documents) folder, which is same folder that the TiVo uses to store downloaded recordings. If your video files are in another folder, you can place a shortcut to that folder in "My TiVo Recordings."
Under Mac OSX, hold down the Apple key when you open TiVo Desktop from System Preferences. When you do that, you'll see a Video menu. Enable that video option and select the folder you want to use. Put your videos in that folder.
Mac users can permanently enable the Video menu in TiVo Desktop -- eliminating the need to hold down the Apple key -- by running this Applescript (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=7700) from member Dennis Wilkinson.
To transfer and view your videos on the TiVo, display the Now Playing list and select the computer icon with your computer's name. It will list any supported videos in that folder. If the folder contains no supported videos, then you will not see an icon for your computer on the TiVo.
