I have a R10 TiVo unit that has worked great for me for a while. But I've noticed lately that it is really slow. What happens is that, when I'm pressing buttons on the remote, it takes a long time for the TiVo to respond. Examples:

Fast-forwarding through commercials - It only registers two presses of the FF button after pressing it 3 times. So I press it a 4th time, and it recognizes both of them putting me back at normal speed.
I start fast-forwarding through commercials, but it keeps going when I press play at the end of the commercials. Sometimes, it won't register that I've hit play and it will just FF all the way to the end of the program. Nothing works. If I hit the DTV button, or the List button, I can see that the TiVo receives the command (since the light on the unit blinks orange) but the unit doesn't respond to the command until all of the sudden it responds to all the button presses I sent at once.

I've tried replacing the batteries in the remote. I've tried rebooting the box. I also did a "clear and delete everything" Lost all my recordings and my SPs and it didn't work. It seems to have started right about the time that I got the 6.3 upgrade. I have been searching the many 6.3 complaint threads, but I don't see any complaints similar to what I describe above.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions for how to fix it?

It's possible that you have IR interference in the room. The TiVo can show a response to button press but, the code is messed up. Try using the remote right up next to the R10 to see if it responds differently.

Experiencing the same exact thing on my Tivos since the "update".

According to D* this along with all the other issues that we are all experiencing are hard drive failures that just all happened to occur after the software change and there is no fix coming since there is no issue with the software.

Their only fix is to get rid of your Tivo box for a D* DVR.

I don't believe any of this for one second but that is what they will tell you if you call them!!

If it is the hard drive, it can be replaced.

I tried getting very close to the TiVo and that didn't change the performance at all. It's certainly possible that it's the hard drive. The drive I have has been in service for just over 2 years (Aug '05). It's a plausible and testable explanation.

Of course, I could so just get instantcake and put it back a version...

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Every R10 I've seen since the upgrade does the same thing you describe - including both of mine. It's a software problem.

Go back to version 6.1 for the R10, and it will work fine. It is a software update bug that is causing the trouble.

I never let it update (no phone plugged into the box). I always wait until I read the forums before I let my Tivos update. There are options to go back that are listed in other threads. (threads like: rebooting tivos, freezing, 6.3 troubles, etc) Go read those threads, and it will tell you how to go back to 6.1
