I bought a direct tv tivo model number "r10" and a huges direct tv tivo unit model number "dvr2" from a yard sale and want to use one or both as a movie server for my tv. I want to send movies from the computer to the tivo and then watch the movie on the tv. Both of these units are direct tv units and the usb ports are disable or they aren't loaded with software for networking ( I think) I have wireless usb adapters and a ethernet to usb adabpter but no lights come on when I plug them to the network. I think one has version 4 on it and the other has version 6 on it. Is there an easy way to upgrade one of these units to do what I want it to? Like maybe an image file for a harddrive? I'm tring to learn, but i don't know much about linux. Can you hlep me? Thanks in advance,
