In my living room, I have a TiVo Series 3 hooked up to a Denon receiver and Sharp 65" LCD TV. I'm having a problem with TiVo menu resolution that is completely baffling to me.
The Sharp has several display options for 480i broadcast - centered with side bands, stretch, "smart stretch" and zoom. I have my TiVo on "native" and usually let my TV deal with the changes in format. I usually watch 480i in smart stretch.
Except for letterboxed widescreen programming. Whenever I select "zoom" for a letterboxed program, any subsequent attempt to bring up the TiVo menu (not the guide, just the menu) results in a very strange blurry menu that is too big for the screen, even after I have gone back to another display option, like "smart stretch". I have to play another, different recorded 480i program, from a non-zoomed setting, to get the TiVo menu to reset itself.
For the life of me I can't figure out why this would be happening, since the TiVo is supposed to just send out what it generates in native format and the TV display option shouldn't impact what the TiVo sends.
What am I missing? Anyone else ever had this problem?
