View Full Version : Just a slight rant

First off, I wish to say here and now that I love my Tivo. I am not a troll just looking to start a fight. I just am slightly annoyed and wish to take a second to mention it for whatever it is worth.

About a month ago when i bought my first ever Tivo. (tivo HD) I noticed the advertisements but they never bothered me, and I can live with them even now. But it seems like with this latest upgrade that ads are more prominant over my screen than usual. Complete with a bigger banner than usual on the bottom and repeated on more of the menus than usual. My question is that do these ads keep prices low for my subscription or does this just provide them with more profit? If it is to keep my subscription at its current cost then i guess so be it. However, if this just provides more profit to Tivo, why not pass a bit of that on to us by allowing us a bit cheaper rates so I can justify more of the advertisements.

Also, what about a price point that excludes ads? Suppose I wanted to pay an extra $5-10 for ad free option. I can't imagine that it would be a difficult thing to add?

Again, I'm certainly not trying to troll and I will continue to pay my fee and be happy with the service. I just thought that I would at least let my voice heard. :-)

I welcome anyone elses thoughts...agree or disagree?

Welcome to the forum and to the TiVolution! :)

You should probably join the other folks whining about, um, I mean discussing this topic on the "official" New type of in-Tivo ads thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=374398). You'll be in good or bad company DOYPOV ;)

And I doubt enough people would be willing to pay an extra $5-$10 per month to be advertising free, so expending resources on such an offering, both in terms of development and test resources, as well as marketing and sales resources, would probably be a grand waste of money.

And, since they are in a border-like image, I know they are ads and I know to ignore them. Most of my time is spent watching the TV program, not the TiVo menu, and certainly not the ads.
