I love the S3. It's been wonderful to have a reliable DVR. I've always thought the best of TiVo but I now have to admit that there has been an on going problem that is starting to frustrate me.

I really think this problem is cable card related as the different updates haven't helped. The problem is that from time to time I lose sound on my local ABC HD channel. Sometimes it goes on both cards, sometimes only one. This has caused me to kind of "babysit" it which is exactly the reason I hated the cable company DVR. The difference is when I do keep an eye on it I can usually catch it - and fix it.

The fix is strange. What I have to do is take the problem slot (s) and go to any digitally encrytped channel. After I do that I simply go back to the ABC HD channel and it's fixed.

I have had my cable company look at it for problems in the digital stream and they say they do not see anything unusual in that stream. Earlier I had some problems with other channels with no sound and they were able to fix it.

I really think that this is something that is out of the broadcast because ever since my ABC affiliate went to Dolby 5.1 they seem to be slightly off synch and it's even more apparent on their local news.

Tonight my recording of "Men in Trees" had no sound. I forgot to double check it as I usually do most nights before primetime recordings start.

I'm also having a problem with the newly added digital station Fox Business News which I would never watch anyway. No picture, no sound and the Pids are really strange looking. My cable company is aware of this and they tell me they can't fix that without breaking something else. This has been going on for a month now.

What with SDV around the corner and all I really wish TiVo had a better idea on how to deal with these cable card issues.

Still it is much better the cables DVR. But I can't say I'm not a bit disappointed. And I know I'm probably the only one out there experiencing this.

By the way, has anybody heard anything new about the dongle?
