Not enough space

Ok, in my to-do history there was a message that the Colbert Report couldn't be recorded because there was not enough or projected not enough space to record.

Wait a minute, I have 15 shows in my deleted folder and like 141 shows in my suggestions folder. Shouldn't tivo be deleting these shows first if it needs space to record something?

Not to mention that I still have about 300GB free based on the fact that I have a TivoHD plus 500GB expander and TivoPlayList software tells me that 298GB of disk space is used.

I imagine there's a good chance you are using a lot of KUID SPs. You really don't want to do that. KUID is meant to be used for the absolutely highest priority shows, and the TiVo scheduling algorithm doesn't want to take even the smallest chance you won't be able to record them.

The message means at some point in the next 12 days, you will run out of space unless you manually delete shows. It doesn't want to trust that you will do that, so it takes action now.

KUID should basically never be used for SP unless the shows are important enough so you will keep them forever. The TiVo will never delete any of the "Until Space Needed" shows unless it runs out of space (I've kept some for 4+ years). Running out of space shouldn't be an issue in your case, so there's no reason for KUID.

AH! That must be the issue. But, I was concerned. The ones I have that aren't KUID say stuff like, "This recording will be kept until at least tommorow at 11:00 PM". I thought that meant it would be deleted at that time, rather than when space is needed?

But, to my other question.... Will Tivo Suggestions be deleted automatically to make room for SP's and Auto-record wish lists... or much I manually delete the suggestions?

Suggestions will automatically be deleted to make room for any scheduled recordings.

I'm sorta curious about something. While I understand KUID SPs may have been the culprit, the OP said he had 150+ recordings between the RD & Suggestions Folders. Unless one has dozens of super high activity SPs, this still doesn't make sense. Wouldn't that 150+ number have to drop much lower before the KUID factor comes into play? Or am I not seeing something?

It may be 150 SD Suggestions vs. 30 HD SPs.

I've never found a tivo defect (7 yrs) .....but I just missed rules of engagement due to "not enough space"....have no SP with KUID.....had 15 tivo suggestions and 4 recently deleted....

Am I missing something with my new TiVo HD?
