Helen Slater....still QUITE beautiful. I think the last episode she was in with all of the soft focus and bright lighting made that unclear for some. Are we all clear now? :)

Interesting episode. I think they tried to do too much in one shot.

Where did the ring come from? Was it "recreated" along with Lara? She had it in her pocket or something? Or she knew where it was hidden in the fortress?
Well, I guess it doesn't matter. I didn't like the ring plot at all. :(

Zor-el sent Kara to....Detroit? The last thing I saw was him grabbing her and throwing (?) her at the crystal panel.

The lady that rescued Kara from the street is a horrible actress.

So, Lex's brother lives. I remember him being mentioned before and perhaps there was a whole episode about it a few years ago...but honestly I don't remember what happened. Maybe that guy was an impostor?

At any rate, just seeing Helen Slater again (again) made this totally worth watching for me.

No question about it. Helen Slater looks mighty fine.

So has Kara lost her powers in addition to her memory? Were they going to spend the rest of the season on "The Search for Kara"? (I'm assuming that the writers' strike goes on long enough to cancel the remainder of the current TV season.)

The ring with the blue K was a construct the same as Lara and Zor-El. It all poofed when the blue crystal did. At least it was only a temporary loss of powers. Previous kryptonites with that ability were rather permanent.

I wish I could forget all of the different shows that have used amnesia as a plot device. Or, for that matter, all of the times Smallville has used amnesia as a plot device. When Kara said she couldn't remember anything I groaned and said "here we go again..."

I think Julian was mentioned but never seen (except as an infant). There was an episode a few seasons back about his supposed crib death. Lex's mom killed him in a fit of post-partum depression, and young Lex took the blame for her resulting in Lionel hating Lex for years. That episode was called Memoria, as I recall, and it consisted of a number of Lex flashbacks. I'm not quite sure how the fact that Julian is now alive is reconciled with that, though. Did I miss something, or am I forgetting something from that earlier episode? Maybe it was revealed at the end of it that the baby never really was killed, at all?

I'm in a hotel so couldn't rewind, but I think I missed something? Clark got the ring off? how did he get to Fortress?

Clark used the "octagonal key" in the caves near Smallville to portal to the Fortress. All of this was alluded to when Chloe said, "don't forget your book" which had the octagon shape cut out of some pages.

Amnesia is the tool of a hack writer.

For some reason, Kara's amnesia reminded me of jazz guitar great Pat Martino's real-life amnesia after suffering an aneurysm. He had to totally relearn how to play the guitar by playing along to his old records.

Kal-el, Zor-el. Who's next, Antwaan Randle-el?

Loved the “there will be consequences for your actions” line. “Young man you are grounded!... oh wait you can’t fly. Then you can’t have the keys to the space ship for a month then!”

That was Gold Kryptonite.

Blue Kryptonite was harmful to Bizzaros.

As for the episode,
Helen Slater: great

Julian:: Huh? Didn't they devote an entire episode to him or did Lex go entirely off the deep end and "recreate" his own brother?

Clark punching Zor-El did look sweet though.

The comedy show "Samantha Who?" is all about a woman who awakes from a week-long coma after being hit by a car and has total amnesia and she has to rediscover herself. The comedy part is that she was a terrible person before the accident and she's a nice person now.

Anyway... in a recent episode, she runs into a guy and tries to explain to him that she has amnesia, to which the guy replies, "There's no such thing as amnesia! It's just a lame plot device used by lazy writers!" :D

That's pretty funny :)

I know of the show, but haven't seen it and didn't know that's what it's about.
Sounds like "Regarding Henry," (an old Harrison Ford movie) done as a comedy.

Hmmm, yeah, that would be about right.

Our recording cut off after Lara woke up in Detroit. What happened after that?

Lara didn't wake up anywhere.

Kara did.

She made her way thru the rain to what looked like a bar but might have been a diner.

A woman let her in, saying she'd intended to close early, but could see Kara needed help.

Kara then said she didn't know who she was.

I'm not sure where the "she doesn't have her powers" thing comes from, since I didn't pick up on that even being hinted.

Maybe I need to watch the ending again.

Kara's pronounciation of Kal-el grated on me. Sounded like "kulul"

When Kara got the diner, she pulled on the door and it didn't open because it was locked.
If she had her powers, she could have easily ripped the door of it's hinges.

Maybe I need to watch the ending again.

Possibly.

I've come to the conclusion that the writers of this show could never get a job working on the comic book because they don't understand the character or the the mythos.

There was a small arc with Julien as a young adult a few years back. I can't remember most of it, but I do remember it was around the time Lionel was blind, or faking he was blind, because the one thing I DO remember was Julien standing by a pool table in Lionel's office, and throwing a pool ball at Lionel's head. When he ducked the ball, which was thrown really hard, Julien made fun of having figured out that Lionel was faking his blindness. Lex sent Julien away for his protection. I guess Julien is back as a different actor.

The episode you're thinking of is Prodigal (http://www.tv.com/smallville/prodigal/episode/218121/summary.html?tag=ep_list;ep_title;14) (from season 2) and actually – in true soap-opera form – concluded an arc that was about a son of Lionel (Lucas Luthor) who was born out of an affair (proving that Lionel loves the redheads).

Julian Luthor, as mentioned already by others, was thought to be dead.
