I bought an HD set today, I'm currently a DTV subscriber and don't want to give up TiVo to get HD, so I started searching my options. Given that I don't want to spend massive $$$ on a series 3, Comcast was the only other solution I could find. I was under the impression TiVo software had already been rolled out by Comcast, but apparently not.

Is anyone aware of any reviews that compare functionality of the Comcast software to that of the standalone Series 2? I'm just wondering what features I'd end up losing going this route (I assume HMO and TTG but I'm fine with that).

The TiVo software has been rolled out to Comcast employees, who are most likely compelled by company policy to keep their mouths shut about it until the product gets rolled out to customers over the next week or two, here in the New England area.

Here's a good write-up on the capabilities, including screen-shots:

$299 for a TiVo HD really isn't that expensive. Currently the S3 can be had for a hundred bucks more. Both now support MRV, TTG, and MSD which apparently will not be supported via Comcrap's boxes. Do yourself a favor and get the real deal. This TiVo/Comcast thing is looking more like it's slanted to favor people with only 1 dvr in their house, anyway. Or you could just enjoy the fact that DTV has the most HD channels (without TiVo of course).

Yeah, as much as I hated to do it, I sucked it up and am going with DTV's HD-DVR. They gave it to me free, free HD package for a year and free HBO for 6 months.

I only have one DVR in the house. Only one TV, too. So I guess Comcast is for me. :)

They gave me one for free too and I told them to get it the hell out of my house in less than a week. A piece of trash.

After living with it for a week, while it's no TiVo, it's really not all that bad. I've downloaded the "undocumented feature guide" from avsforum.com and my wife and I are mostly satisfied, having HD is worth the losses we must suffer (no dual buffer is ridiculous). I hate the remote however and have ordered a Harmony 880, hopefully that will help somewhat.

The msd assumes you already have tivo, so the Cable Tivo might be a good choice for people who never had a Tivo. There is already talk of MRV with a cable dvr(it will only work with orther cable digital boxes, but not to a real Tivo) and it will include the cable tivo because the software will be in the box as opposed to the the guide/Tivo software.
