View Full Version : Do you ever do show marathons?

Not just watching last week's show and then catching up with this week's, but watching something like 5+ shows in a row. I usually do it when I'm sick in bed or the weather is too bad to go out.
I like to marathons for shows where I can't wait week to week to see the ending. Sometimes I saved them up cause I'm not sure if I'll like the show. Other times I start in the middle of the season and then wait until the reruns and try to catch up.
I've done marathons for the 4400, Criminal Minds, America's Next Top Model, Monk, CSI, Survivorman, Man vs. Wild, or cooking shows.
What shows have you watched marathon style?

Yes. We do them all the time. Usually, we queue up a season of Buffy (and the corresponding season of Angel) and watch until we can't watch anymore.

Until last spring, I didn't have a big enough Tivo to do marathons. They did a Heros marathon soon after I got my super-sized Tivo, and so far that's my only one. I also have a large number of unwatched Bones & SG Atlantis eps, which I'll probably watch eventually.

We are over a month behind in our viewing which consist primarily of regular weekly series. I'd prefer to catch up on each show when we get to it but my wife (the boss) prefers to watch in order of broadcast.

Right now my CSI's (all three) are adding up on my Tivo. I will probably watch them all in a row when I can get to them. I record so much stuff, it is hard to watch it all as it comes in. I guess I will have plenty stocked up if the strike continues for a long time.

I've done marathons for shows that I didn't know about or ones that I didn't think I would like. The Shield was the first one and more recently I did this with Dexter. I've also done it with the early seasons of the Amazing Race.

I prefer the term "Front Office" in my household. ;)

I watched the first 5 seasons of 24 from DVDs, and watched season 1 of Heroes on DVD.
I'm recording all the Chuck episodes, but so far have only seen the Pilot.
I also mentioned a few months back that I was recording 21 Jump Street. I watched until the new TV season began, but now I'm about 41 episodes behind. Probably won't get to those until next summer.

I've done it so far with this season with Chuck(which I just caught up with this week) and Journeyman(I've watched the first two). I still have Smallville, that I've only seen 1 eposiode of so far, CSI, CSI NY, and Cane. With the writers strike I'm glade I ended up saving some stuff.
I forgot about Life.

Wish we had the disk space to keep as many ep. as y'all. Or I could just get off my lazy petard and figure out how to use my new DVD Recorder...

I don't watch much hour long television--most of my viewing comes either in short bursts, or an hour long "edutainment" program like Mythbusters where I'll skip over parts.
When I do decide to pull up an hour long drama, though, I will often wind up watching a few in a row. I'll do this with Babylon 5 sometimes, watching a few episodes in a row. Usually I do this way too late at night, find that I stayed up way too late watching TV, and then I'm dead tired the next day.

Real World or Road Rules, Real Housewives of Orange County....shows like this always suck me in and I have to know what's going to happen next! :o

During the summer when the networks are doing re-runs and boring summer replacments, we will often do some marathons. My wife didn't like scary shows when she was a kid, so we saved up a bunch of old 'Twilight Zones' and watched them over a couple of weeks in the evenings. That was fun.
We've also done movie theme marthons, such as zombie movies, movies about nuclear wars, and actor marthons.
Just about every weekend is a COPs marathon for me.

Every couple of months or so I do Alias marathons. It was my favorite show EVER and I like to watch them over and over.
Currently my husband and I do mini X-Files marathons on the weekends. We started with season 1 and are working to the end. It has been so long since we have seen most of those that it is like watching them for the first time!!

Oh yeah, Esp when a DVD set for a show comes out.
Depending on how intense the show is, I can do anywhere from 2-3 to 8-10 in a row.
Except for shows like Lost S2, where 4 is just enough for my brane to handle in one shot.

The closest I get to a marathon is, I watch all of the episodes on a single DVD from one of my sets (usually The Simpsons or Family Guy, although Red Dwarf is starting to get back into the rotation).

I usually only do an episode or two a night. The last time I did a marathon was when I sat down and watched the first episode of last years Everest: Beyond the Limit. I watched all 6 episodes back to back that evening.

Most recently, I've done it for The Office US (probably 8-10 in a sitting), Scrubs (as many as 18 a day), and the first season of Dexter (4 in a sitting).
I recall doing the same for Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars when I first became enlightened.

We keep saying we'll get started on them, but just never do. Also got all this year's CYE, quite a few Chuck's and 2 each of Heroes and Jouneyman. And 24 Medium's. 10 It's always Sunny in Philadelphia. 12 Criminal Minds. 12 Californications. Get the picture?
Oy!
ETA: We're almost done with Arrested Development. I can't believe I missed this first time around. What a BRILLIANT show.

I usually do that with 24 - 4-6 in a row. An I'll sometimes watch a week's worth of Poker After Dark in one sitting. Got about 8 weeks of those saved up.
I'm doing that now with Jericho - I recorded all eps once they came back and reran the last 11 or so. And I'' probably wind up doing that with Damages as I've got those saved up and unwatched.
Come to think of it, I record so much stuff that when I sit down to watch something, it's usually several of the same show in a row to get 'caught up'.

I once watched an entire season of Americas Next Top Model when I had the flu. Definitely made the day go by faster. Since we upgraded the storage capacity on our TiVo's we've taken to collecting entire seasons of shows to watch during the writers strike. I like a good marathon every once in awhile. It's a nice way to just relax and veg out for the day.

Wow.. I have a few less than 110 Letterman episodes on my S3. (Recorded in analog @ basic quality.) Mostly because a lot of them have musical guests that I like. I used to record from my Tivo to my other hard drive/DVD recorder (while I was away or while I watched something else) and watch them at 1.5x with sound.. and then snip out just the musical guest. (While I could record natively on the other recorder, I also record the other 3 late night talk shows.. but Letterman is the only one I *watch*.. The others only get the good musical guests dubbed off and the very few other regular funny segments..)
Since there's now Tivo to go, I'll probably try figuring all of that out next week (we're off for Thanksgiving), so I can get a ton of them off my S3 and catch up eventually.
This strike actually has gotten me to catch up on more shows..

I used to do it quite a bit.. But now I find myself getting bored watching tv for more than a couple hours at a time.
I think my last marathons all focused around Top Chef. I essentially started wathing season 1 and season 2 when season 3 started. So at one point I was watching all 3 seasons at the same time. But I would often watch 4 or 5 episodes at once.

The last 2 years I have recorded complete seasons of Weeds before watching any of them. When they only show 30 minutes per week it's hard to stay interested. Watching the entire season in 3 days is much better.
I have also recorded all seasons of Buffy, Star Trek TNG, That 70's Show and Friends. I love to just kick back and watch 2-3 hours of my favorite shows.
