I recently bought 2 series 2 (649) Tivos and am using Tivo Desktop. On one of the 2 Tivo's, every single transfer from the Tivo to Tivo Desktop fails. By Fail, I mean that the transfer ends prematurely.
Let's say I have 3 test files A, B, and C. A always fails at 81MB, B always fails at 195MB, C always fails at 11MB. Their seams to be a random nature to where the failure will occur for each new recording, but file A always fails at 81MB, B at 195MB, and C at 11MB and so on.
The part that does transfer plays back fine. On the other Tivo, everything works fine. Watching the recordings on the Tivo work fine. Transferring the recordings between Tivos works fine.
My hypothesis is that the problem is incorrect or corrupt file length tagging during the encode on the 'Bad' Tivo. The Tivo's must not use the data that is incorrectly tagged or currupted to play or transfer to each other, but must use the data when transferring to a PC.
I believe I can exclude Tivo Desktop, because I used the web interface method to download a file from the Bad Tivo and the transfer fails in exactly the same place as it does when using Tivo Desktop.
I am able to reinforce my hypothesis, because I transferred a recording from the Bad Tivo to the 'Good' Tivo and then from the Good Tivo to Tivo Desktop and the transfer failed in the exact location as it did using the two different transfer methods from the Bad Tivo. Therefore, I conclude that the resulting problem lies within the file itself.
I have done a complete reset of the system with the same issue. I have disabled and reenabled transfers and changed the name of my Tivos with the same issues.
I have firmware 9.1-01-2-649.
I suspect that the problem is a hardware problem such as a register is not being set or read correctly since my Good Tivo has the same firmware, but doesn't exhibit the same problem. I am ready to try and return or exchange the Bad Tivo.
Has anyone seen this issue before? Have any other ideas?
Thanks!
