I'm waiting for the TivoHD to get shipped to me but when it does, is there any way to make sure everything with Cox/CableCards/Tivo coexist flawlessly (or at least without a lot of the issues people seem to have) before transferring the lifetime service (using the offer that expires 12/08)?

I just want to make sure I'm not stuck having already transferred the service to the TivoHD but not getting the kind of performance I'm expecting.

Or am I just worrying too much and after some initial issues I'll be a happy Tivo customer yet again (switched to the Cox HDDVR for a while).

That why you have 30 days to cancel, when you have a date with your cable co, do the Xfer a day or so before, and you then have almost 30 days to try things out.

IIRC, this deal ended on 11/08/07 and the new pricing on subscriptions took effect on 11/09/07.

IIRC, this deal ended on 11/08/07 and the new pricing on subscriptions took effect on 11/09/07. The lifetime transfer is able to be transfered until 12/8. The box had to be bought by 11/08.

Check out the following two threads and make sure the cable tech follows the instructions that come with the Tivo HD for installing cablecards.

Cox CableCard thread

My experience was with Comcast may or may not be helpful to you but don't assume the cable tech knows much at all about cablecards, mine had never done a Tivo install before. I handed the tech the instructions and told him to follow them and he still put both cablecards in at once, so when you hand over the install instructions, I would also tell the tech that if it's two S-cards, they need to be installed one at a time. Another thing I ran into is that my cable company swore to me they didn't have any M-cards, but it turned out the tech was sent out with one M-card and one S-card. The tech didn't know the difference b/t a S-card and an M-card and was trying to install one M-card and one S-card. So that was another glitch in the installation. I finally looked at the cards myself and realized what had happened and told the tech he needed to only be using one M-card. After that, I still had problems that were on Comcast's end, so they probably wouldn't be relevant to your situation. If you read up on the common problems in the two above threads you will probably know more than the techs themselves. Good luck.

I took atvantage of the lifetime transfer myself... and got a tivo hd.

What i did was connect the tv along side the moto pos comcrap has and made sure to download the service update prior to have the card(s) installed.

I was told on the phone the did not have the m cards.. which turned out to be incorrect.

When the installer showed up i found out he TRIED one other cablecard install
which infact failed... on the s3.

Then i found out he had a mcard with him.. told him to try that first!!!

followed what i told him to do.. and like 30 min later.. all was well.
