Hi,
We just got the lastest upgrade for our Series 3 (the Unbox improvement and the official ESATA support). We've noticed now when fast forwarding through commercials that the TIVO "chirps" when it hits ad for a show that we can record with a thumbs up. The first 3 times, we tried to figure which piece of electronics was making the noise, then we figured out it was the TIVO "alerting us" to shows we could record (some of which we already do).
Is there a way to turn this off? Is this new? I tried searching the forums, but couldn't find anything, so if this is an already discussed thread, my apologies.
Any light anyone can shed on this feature would be appreciated. We'd like not to have to listen to it.
Thanks,
abby
Yes, this is really obnoxious. It is louder and harsher than the usual sound effects. Like all the other advertising TiVo has been cramming into each and every recent new software release, however, I'm sure there is no way to turn it off.

This is exactly what I came to the forums for - was to find out if there is a way to turn off that annoying sound! I HATE IT!
Why must they change things so much - if it ain't broke don't fix it TiVo!
Please give us a way to turn off that sound!

That's really strange. We have the latest software (v9.2a) on our S3 and I know I've seen the TiVo thumbs up icon for upcoming programs while FF through commercials and I've never heard anything.
Our audio is connected from TiVo via optical (TOSlink) to our HT receiver. Are you guys on HDMI? Do you hear the noise on HD or SD broadcasts, or both? Have you called TiVo about it?
Just curious as to why you're hearing it and I'm not...not that I want to as it does sound annoying.
BTW, witchly...member since '02 and your first post? Wow! Welcome...sort of. ;)

I noticed this on my S2 in my family room the other day. I have my sound wired through my home theater.
I haven't noticed it on my bedroom S2 yet.
I had the same initial thought, what is beeping? I have a Palm Zire72, three cell phones, wireless home phones, clocks, watches, computers and appliances that all make some kind of noise. It took me probably 30 seconds to figure out what it was.
I don't really find it annoying or intrusive. It's just there.

Has anyone tried going into messages & settings and turnning off Sound effects?
I have a Tivo HD with a simular set-up as Rich (software 9.2a) and I don't hear anything, neither of my S2s make a sound while FF pass a "thumbs up" commercial, very odd some are hearing it and others are not

It doesn't necessarily bother me, just kinda scares me when it does it because unlike all of the other Tivo sounds, you're not expecting to hear that one.

If you FF at 3X (the one that runs 60 times real time) the tone doesn't sound, at least not on my S2DT. I only hear it at 1XFF and 2XFF.

Wow - you guys are really sensitive. It's just a little chirp. I don't find it annoying at all.

First time I heard it I thought my TiVo was borked.

Isn't this like the Tivo sound effects, and only audible on the analog audio outputs and not the optical and HDMI outputs?

I haven't heard it and I have 9.2a but I'll take your word for it. File this under things that people complain about that are really quite petty.
