Hello, I am considering my 1st TiVo unit and need some help understand what the TiVo HD box is capable of when displaying high resolution JPEGs from a network attached PC.

For example, if I want to display a JPEG with a resolution of 3504 x 2336 bits to a 50" HDTV with a native resolution of 1920x1080P, what kind of results can I expect ?

My goal is to get a slide show capability that takes full advantage of the 1920x1080P display. Several other source devices I have tried introduce artifical limits on the resolution.

As a new forum member, thanks for any help.

Robert

Thanks very much for the pointer. I can see that not everyone's experience seems to be the same with HD still frame images.

I too have been disappointed in the HD picture quality displayed via Desktop. HD is clearly an improvement over the older SD software but it's not much better than DVD quality in reality.

The one aspect of this subject which continues to frustrate this loyal, long- time, TiVo advocate is this.... Why do we need to "research" every new aspect of TiVo to attempt to learn how to properly utilize it's features?

Seriously folks. TiVo places a great deal of time and money in developing things like Desktop and then just throws it out there. The little info they do provide via their web site is just plain lame. I've spent literally days of time and effort in trying to ensure I'm utilizing this feature correctly and applying it in the most effective manner to get the most out of it. I still don't know if a better quality picture can be had via Desktop or not.

A simple in-depth article by TiVo detailing how to optimize your viewing on Desktop, what it can do and how it does it, and what it can't, would be worth it's weight in gold. Why they elect not to provide this remains a mystery.

At this point I've concluded Desktop cannot provide a "true" HD quality picture from any source or resolution. Without some evidence of this not being a true statement, I'm at the point where I'm looking for another solution.

There... I've got that off my chest now... :)
