Ok, so I just created a bunch of mp3 files using Lame 3.97. Quality was "--preset standard" which makes a variable bit rate file. Songs play just fine on the computer (in Windows Media Player).
When I play these songs on the Tivo (Series 3 in case it matters), I get wrong lengths for some of the songs. If the length is too long, it just stops when it gets to the true end of the song (as in it doesn't move on to the next song). I also had one case where I paused a song for awhile, came back and started it, and it played maybe a few seconds and then jumped to the next song (before the first one had finished). Strangely, if I play something else and then go back to a problematic song it sometimes gets the right length and works.
On a previous computer and with an older version of the Tivo software I never saw this.
Anybody got any idea what might be wrong? Does Tivo not handle VBR files well? It shouldn't be a codec thing on the computer since the Tivo is doing it's own mp3 playback, right?
Thanks...
