At Tivo's prompting, I uninstalled Desktop so that I could re-install the newest version 2.5.1.
But i get a "getfp:0c001c" termination error each time I try to install it.
I'm administrator. I run MS XP. I've reinstalled VBScript. I've registered VBScript. I ran TIVO Desktop Cleaner. I'm logged on locally, not remotely.
Too bad I didn't save a copy of the original version, it worked fine!
Any ideas?

Do you mean a CSR told you that, or you found it on their web site?
Do you have a link?
Probably this thread (about Vista)...

I hesitate to offer this, since it pretty far fetched, but have you thought about testing your memory?

You can make a bootable CD that will check for problems.
I have Windows XP and un-installed Tivo Desktop 2.4 (which worked fine) but could not get Desktop 2.5.1 to install.
I had the frustrating "getfp:0c001c" termination error !!
Ocassionally it would be a 1722 error.
I spent a week trying to install it.
I'm not using remote desktop, which was some peoples problem.
I now happy to report that I have it fully installed and operational :D
Here's how I did it:
1) Run the Tivo Desktop installer from the command line using the /quiet switch.
C:\Tivo>TivoDesktop2.5.1 /quiet
This performed the install, though it was completely behind the scenes.
I don't know why that avoided the "getfp" error, but I won't question it :)
So it installed successfully, but then wouldn't run.
Tivo desktop just complained that TivoTransfer wasn't running!
And just running TivoTransfer by itself didn't do anything.
2) Again, from the command line, run TivoTransfer with the /install switch.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\TiVo Shared\Transfer>tivotransfer /install
3) Then start the TivoTransfer service:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\TiVo Shared\Transfer>tivotransfer /start
Now TivoDesktop should run, but you still might have to start the TivoService.
4) From the "Server" menu in TivoDesktop, choose start.
That's what worked for me, hope it works for you too.
Oh, and you also need to have the TivoBeacon service running, but that started automatically for me, so I didn't have to do anything with it.

Thanks Cobb, I'll try that when I get back home. Although I managed to find a copy of 2.3a and it installed just fine, and also works fine for me. Maybe I'll just leave it at that.
Thanks for all your help.
