Well I just recently upgraded to TDP 2.5.1 version and now been transferring xvid files to my S2. I've seen the threads about transfer speeds with mpeg2 and .tivo files, but how long should a xvid file take (97 minute movie)? I know it transcodes the file to the correct format. When did they start showing the % and file size for each show when you press the info button?
TiVo S2 ST -> dongle -> router -> PC 1.7 Ghrz (XP)
Thanks
Btw - Is it normal when you transfer files (either way) that your internet becomes slowlike dialup? I have a cable modem.

When your computer is transcoding the xvid you processor should be at 100% utilization. The speed of the transcoding (and therefore transferring) is probably going to be limited by your processor.
I believe your perceived internet slowness is related more to your processor being maxed out than your internet connection (so your computer is slower overall). Because I don't think I have ever seen files transfer to the tivo at much more than 1/4 of a 100mb connection.
I am able to do better than realtime on regular xvids (~700mb for a 80 minute video), but not particularly speedy. My processor is a 3.2ghz dual core.
Like Jiffy Said,
You are taxing that 1.7 Processor...
transcoding the xvid file is taxing that PC to the fullest....
I am surprised you can do anything other than transcode

Definitely the PC. On my quad core machine I can transfer an Xvid to my TiVo, surf the web and even work in PhotoShop without any noticeable slow down. Video transcoding is a very processor intensive task. You should consider upgrading to at least a dual core machine. It will make a really big difference.
