Hi,
Called the TOTALLY hopeless TiVo support on this and they said my OS was corrupt.... Ok.
ANYWAY... Have a NEW OS load (Vista 64) and once the TiVo Desktop finishes installation, right away I get an "Access Denied" message (Title bar says TiVo Server Error). Then, about 1 min. later, an error: "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion (Title bar says TiVo Desktop).
When I right click on the TiVo icon (with the red X on it) in the system tray, and choose Restart TiVo Server, I get the same results. The Beacon service is running though already (FYI).
Anyone else see this?
I've gone to the TiVo web site and on the page that you download the TiVo Desktop software there is a link to click on "If you are having trouble installing in Windows Vista, click here." Well... that link is broken and could hold my answer.
Anyway, thanks in advance for any help.

Run the TiVo Desktop Cleaner to completely uninstall the software and remove all the reg stuff. Then try a clean install, I turned off UAC during my install due to the issues I was having.
Also remember that this doesn't work through Remote Desktop.
Good luck, not sure if there is any aspect to 64 that is causing an issue, anyone else running 64 with no problems? (I am plain ol 32-bit Vista Ultimate).

TiVo has been re-organizing their support site and a lot of links seem to be broken now. Here's the "new" link to the page you were trying to get to:
http://tivosupport2.instancy.com/LaunchContent.aspx?cid=38fc003c-5e79-4deb-b6ae-db236f53edd1
That's where you can get the TiVo Desktop Cleaner that Jiffylush referred to.

Thanks guys.. I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. I've disabled UAC and that didn't help, but maybe this clean up will.
Thanks again.

My guess is that it is not compatible with Vista 64-bit edition. That's why I run the 32-bit version -- too many compatibility issues and not enough benefits with 64-bit.

I've got 8GB RAM.... Need it for VMWare stuff... so need 64-bit. The rest of my software works on it. Maybe I'll just put TiVo Desktop in a VM then if this doesn't work.
Thanks!

Do you have any firewall software? I have Norton Internet Security and I had to add the IP address for Tivo to the trusted list.

Working now.
I uninstalled.
Ran the clean up tool.
Put "Documents" (formally "My Documents") back to the default location (was located on a separate drive).
Rebooted.
Re-installed.
Then moved the "Documents" location back where I wanted it.
All went fine.
Any of those could have helped.
Thanks for all the replies!
