View Full Version : HD Tivo and 2 Toshiba units...can they talk?

I am ready to buy the TIVO HD Series 3 unit. I currently have two of the older series 2 Toshiba tivo dvd burner units. They both carry Tivo Basic. I would like to only have one monthly payment for the HD unit and then just use tivo basic on my two toshiba units.

So, my question is: Can I still use multi room viewing with this. Can I send the tivo programming from my HD unit and send it to my toshiba units (yes, I know that if it can do this, I will not get the HD programming)? Or do these toshiba units need to be under the tivo+ plans to be able to get multi room viewing from my HD unit? I hope this makes sense. I have a wireless home system. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

You will NOT be able to watch anything recorded in HD on the S3 tivo on the Toshibas....

I don't know about Tivo Basic and HMO

I do know that I will NOT be able to watch the HD programming on my toshibas, but I am wondering if I will be able to transfer all non-HD programming to my Toshiba Units or if these toshiba units need to be subscriptioned to get that feature. Thanks for any help.

I believe that you need an actual TiVo subscription, not just TiVo Basic on the units to do MRV.

The Toshiba units will need the paid TivoPlus subscription for any networking functions(besides communicating with the Tivo service for guide updates).

As stated ... you'll need a subscription. I can confirm because I just let my TX20 revert to TiVo Basic after getting my TiVoHD set up over the weekend.

i'm in the same boat...different question though
as these tivo basic units cant talk, is there a way to remove them from the now playing list?
as it is now i have to hit the skip to end button, and go up 3-4 spots to get to the suggestions...annoying

A unit with TiVo Basic shouldn't appear on another box's NPL ... at least, mine doesn't. Try rebooting the TiVo that still "sees" the TX20.

they're actually sdh400's....but they're there and have been since 9.2 and it's been rebooted a couple times. when you try to access it it just says no programs found or whatever

How do you have them networked (the 2 SD400's)??

So they're using the TiVo Basic service and still show up in the NPL? Strange.

What if you go to Manage My Account on TiVo.com and disable transfers?

correct. the sd400's are connected wirelessly with the hd hardwired...
since they have tivo basic, basically your account is closed and you cannot access the units on tivo.com

azitnay over on the TX20 Owner's Club thread mentioned that his TX20, which recently reverted to TiVo Basic, also still shows up in his remote NPLs. I hadn't noticed myself because after my TX20 went back to the Basic service I switched it to use the phone line instead of the network.

So this appears to be a common problem ...
