Hello folks.

I am a happy owner of a TivO Series HD and I was really happy when my last service update enabled the TiVO to GO feature.

So a few days later I went to download the Tivo Desktop 2.5.1 to play around with the transfer concept.

The software installed fine but when I go to choose programs for transfer, I get an error message that says:

Not enough storage is available to process this command.

Storage on my PC or storage on the TiVO?

It's a bit ambiguous.

Has anyone come across this problem before?

Are you trying to download a show from your TiVo to your PC, or pull a show onto your TiVo from your PC?

I've received that error message periodically on all my Tivo's (one S3 and two S2). Rebooting the tivo corrects for a couple of weeks....then I have to do it again. Haven't discovered a long term fix.

I was on vacation for a time after I posted this which resulted in this delay.

To answer WindRacer's question, I was trying to transfer a program to my PC from my TiVo Series 3 box.

Oh and here's an update. This morning, when I tried to pull recordings from the Series 3 HD, it seemed to have gotten a little further. This time, it actually tried to pull down recordings and it was looping through giving a count of how many it had pulled e.g. 40 out of 190 or 60 our 190 but then it barfed with the message:

There was an error while attempting to retrieve data from the selected DVR. TiVo Desktop is unable to contact the DVR. This could be due to network problems or the DVR might not be set to allow transfers.

Neither of these statements is true of course.

One more update... I seem to not have any issues when I try downloading using the web technique found at this FAQ from this same TiVO community forum.

http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=371710&highlight=Tivo+to+go+problems

I have no idea what's going on with the desktop.

This problem has been reported in the forums several times. For me, at least, I can shut down the Tivo Desktop and restart it and then I can download the now playing list. The number of restarts required varies.

Weirdness!

I'll have to give it a go.

Weirdness!

Wierdness? As good a word as any for the situation.

This seems to be a 9.x problem. I never had this trouble under 8.x.

Hope Tivo fixes this soon.

I think TiVo Desktop only runs under Microsoft Windows, so I'll assume that the operating system on your computer is one of the flavors of Windows. If so, it's possible that you're running afoul of a known problem. Here's a Microsoft Knowledge Base article discussing an issue some folks have accessing "network shares" after installing antivirus software:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;177078

It's possible that you're running into the problem described in that article even if you don't have the antivirus software they describe. I had to make the suggested modification to my registry a while back in order to access a shared folder on a friend's laptop. Since TiVo Desktop is accessing files on the TiVo across your network, it's possible that the error message you're seeing is caused by a similar problem.

In a nutshell, it's possible that all you need to change a registry setting on your computer and reboot. *** BE INSANELY CAUTIOUS DOING THIS ***, as it's possible to hose your computer COMPLETELY if you make a mistake editing the registry. If you follow the instructions and only modify that one entry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Lanman Server\Parameters) to a valid value (11 - 50 decimal) you should be OK, just be careful and make sure you've backed up, made a recovery disk, etc. before you start mucking with the registry.

DEFINITELY read and follow the instructions in that Knowledge Base article if you want to try this fix.
