So I am finally getting a new TiVo HD. I have read a few posts about TWC in Los Angeles but thought I would see if I could wrangle a bit more info.

First, has anyone with TWC in LA managed to get an M-Card?

What are people currently paying for CableCards in LA?

Has anyone been able to install the CableCards themselves or does TWC require a truck roll?

Is there any CableCard expert in LA? I noticed that a number of areas (Austin and somewhere in Georgia, I think I saw) have local TiVo/CableCard gurus that assist. Anyone in Los Angeles like this?

If anyone has any additional tricks, tips or warnings, please let me know.

Feel free to send me a PM with your experience if you wish.

Thanks,

No M-Cards.

$19.95 install, $1.75 / Month each card.

Truck roll.

It took two trips to get the cards working. Third party installer came last Saturday, left me with one working card and one card that wouldn't display encrypted content. It displayed a MISSING_PROGRAM_REKEY but was receiving data.

I called and emailed TWC customer service all week explaining to them the card was okay but just needed to be initialized and if they could just put me through to the local office where the technicians call in it would take a minute to fix. They refused to cut out the middle man and kept making there own "adjustments" to my account but the card still didn't function.

TWC tech came today made one phone call and the non-working card started working.

If anyone has any additional tricks, tips or warnings, please let me know.

Don't let the installer leave until you can get all your channels on both tuners. I let the first guy off the hook too easily thinking any problems could be fixed via the 800 number.
