I can't get TiVo Desktop 2.5.1 to see my TiVo no matter what I try. Here's my config:

- Series 3
- Vista and TiVo Desktop 2.5.1
- Transfers enabled in my TiVo account
- Media access key set in the desktop
- OneCare, but Firewall disabled (and I've opened all the ports when it is on)
- Linksys WRT54G wireless router
- TiVo connected via direct Ethernet
- I have the S3 service update for TiVoToGo (a,a,a)
- I have cold booted

My TiVo can get out to the Internet without issue. I can also publish photos and music on my PC and TiVo sees that. For the life of me, I can't get the desktop to see the TiVo so that I can transfer recordings.

When I was messing around I noticed that through DHCP the TiVo has an IP address of 192.168.102.101. This strikes me as odd since all PCs behind the firewall should be 192.168.1.* and the TiVo needs to be on the same subnet. TiVo also finds the gateway as 192.168.102.1 but it should be 192.168.1.1. Does TiVo do something weird with the IPs that it is assigned? When I check the log for the router, outgoing connections to tivo.com are from 192.168.1.114. I don't know if this is related to my problem.

I can't assign a static IP either and have it work. Either TiVo can't find the gateway when I enter 192.168.1.1 or if I enter 192.168.102.1 it can't get to the TiVo service.

Hitting 192.168.102.101 or 192.168.1.114 via the browser does not work.

Anything I can try? Suggestions for some debugging tools? Any pointers are really appreciated!

Sounds like the TiVo is legitimately on a different subnet. Can you go into a bit more detail on your network setup (for example, you say the TiVo is connected via Ethernet, but what is it connected to (one of the LAN ports on the WRT54G?)

Almost sounds as if the TiVo is on the WAN side of your WRT54G and getting its IP address from upstream, rather than being behind it on the LAN side and using the Linksys box as the router.

Thanks Dennis! Reading your post actually triggered another thought that solved my problem. The TiVo is plugged straight into the router. Or so I thought. When I ran out of ports on the router I plugged one device into the VOIP box since it also had a network in. I thought I plugged the Xbox 360 in there but I mixed up the cables and the TiVo was actually grabbing its IP address from the phone device. That put it on a different subnet and messed everything up. I switched back the cables and now I am transferring shows from my TiVo!

It's always good to get some ideas from others. Even if they don't exactly solve your problem they can trigger a thought that helps. Thanks again.
