My THD with 500G drive via WinMFS worked for several weeks. Now it's stuck on "Welcome! Powering up..."

I know this is means an HD issue. I've tried kickstart, but never got to the yellow LEDs. Makes sense as the kickstart stuff runs off the drive not the firmware.

What's next? What can I do in terms saving this drive by pulling it and debugging it on a PC? I have the orig drive and can drop back to it if I have to, but...

I think this question would be better answered here:

In any case you failed to mention the make and model of the TiVo, Directv or Standalone Tivo. Make of hard drive. Did you run manufactures diagnostics? You said a couple weeks old. Most dealers have between 2weeks and 30 days returns. Have you considered the manufacturer's RMA procedure. most of your options should be through the Manufacturer who will fix a failure for between 3 and 5 years. Good Luck :)

Sorry, I thought THD was a common abbreviation here for TiVo HD. The drive is a Samsung Spinpoint.

I know how to RMA if necessary, but I was hoping it's not completely dead, just bad blocks, and I could repair things with minimal loss of the shows on it.

Thanks though,
I'll check the MFSLive forums too.

Check the drive connections, I think that "Welcome Powering Up" is before the hard drive is accessed it may just be unplugged.

Pull the drive plug it into a PC and check the drive with the drives manufactures diagnostics.
