a few times an hour, the CC status (copyprotectioninfo) pops up on my tivoHD. i read elsewhere that this could be a problem with that card's pairing. if i pop it out, and reintialize it, will that be a permanent fix? do i need to call my cableco? its not terribly annoying, as playback stops when the screen appears, and the clear key works, and the recorded show can continue.

I feel your pain. I have a Comcast truck roll for the same issue tomorrow morning. Popping it out will do nothing. Your cableco has to enter the correct info on their end.

The CableCARD pairing MMI screen pops up when you change to a certain channel.
The channel is copy protected, and the card is unpaired.
Contact your cable provider. The cable provider will request pairing information and will need to authorize your account to display the channels

That will happen if you tune to a channel with a non-zero CCI value and your card(s) are not paired or validated properly. Your cable company should be able to correct this with a phone call, though you may have to be persistent.
See the installation FAQ for more info.

I had this problem when watching one particular channel. I don't know if it had a weak signal or what, but once I remove the channel, it never happened again. I was having the sdame problem with the same channel on all 3 S3's. Removing the channel fixed all 3.
It never happened on any other channels.

It never happened on any other channels. It happens when you select an encrypted channel. For example, if I choose CBS HD, the station comes in fine. If I select HBO or ESPN, the cableCARD configuration menu comes up. So anything that is local and/or free and clear works fine. If you don't have any encrypted channels or your cableco does not care (they do not enforce pairing, like my cableco when cableCARDs first came out), you will not see the problem. Sounds to me like your cableCARDs are not paired properly, but your cableco is only encrypting that one station in your line-up. I'm guessing you have no premium channels.

Actually I have all of the premium movie channels. My Cable CARD 'popups' only occured when my kids watched Nickelodeon's GAS Network, so I turned it off and everything works fine.

You should ask around from people in your area. See if anyone else has the problem. If so, you would have a good case when you call to complain.

Probably so, but I live in such a rural area that installers have to let me install the CableCARDs They won't even come to the house if my wife is there and not me (because of the 'different' technology), I have to come home from work when they arrive. All that to say: there aren't any other CC customers that I know of in my area.
And afterall, it is Nick GAS! I think I am happier just turning it off rather than complaining.
