View Full Version : Shows copy and convert, but won't import in to iTunes

I've searched the forums (though perhaps not well enough) and can't find anything relevant. I can use 2.5.1 to copy programs over from my Series 3 to my computer. They play fine.
I have the Plus upgrade and it converts those shows using the iPod setting. When it finishes it tries to add the shows to my iTunes library (iTunes opens if it was previously closed). Some shows add. Some don't and refuse to manually imported either. Of the 18 shows that have been converted only 8 have made it in to my iTunes library. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to what adds and what doesn't.
They are all recorded over-the-air shows from the local stations. Some HD, some not.
When I try to open the shows that won't import in Quicktime it gives me an error message that says "a bad public movie atom was found..."

Any ideas?

I've tried renaming the files to something simple (in this case I simplified to "red" without the quotes) and it didn't make a difference. I'm using the latest Desktop download and the latest iTunes. Just more info to add as I keep searching.

Any ideas?
I have read that if you open the file with an iTunes aware tag editor and then save it, the problem will sometimes be fixed. The presumption is that the MP4 files ID tag is mangled somehow and iTunes chokes on it. Apparently simply editing the tag and saving changes, even when none were made helps, but not always.

Good luck,

I hope it's that simple. I do remember trying this fix early on in my trouble-shooting (early enough that I forgot about it until you mentioned it) but I didn't have any luck. I used a Java runtime called Tagger without success. Any suggestions of other programs to try?

I'm running the 9.1 Tivo software. Will the 9.2 update help anything?

Hate to be rude...but, BUMP.

Just so I don't feel quite as bad...should I reboot the tivo? Reinstall Tivo desktop? Try a tag editor that someone suggests? I'm frustrated...

A copy of Red Dawn (don't laugh) plays just fine streaming from my computer to the tivo, however I do not know what format, encoding bitrate, audio format, etc. it is in. Can someone suggest a nice little application that can look at a video file and report these kinds of details?

Another BUMP, but I'm out of ideas...

When transferring things back to the Tivo (TTCB), they seem to choke at the end of the show. This of course only happens with things that will transfer at all. The show/movie/whatever will not play through to the end and eventually the file transfer gives up. Don't know what else to try.
