Very frustrating. I installed Tivo Transfer in Roxio's Toast 8 on the Mac. About half of my recorded shows on my Series 3 are copy protected so I can't transfer them. Many of these shows are regular network shows. I can see them listed, but they have a red circle with a slash as the icon next to each program.

I tried Tivo Decode Manager and it worked with the Series 3, but it wouldn't even display the programs that are copy protected.

I just want to be able to get these programs onto my iPhone so I can watch them on an upcoming plane trip.

Anyone else seeing this much copy protection on their Series 3?

One positive thing...I was able to successfully transfer a non copy protected show over to my Mac and burn it for my iPhone. Quality was good.

The only thing I've seen cp'ed are HBO, NHL Center Ice, and Tivocast. I think a movie I recorded from HDNet might have been also. All other channels, including the HD networks (cable and antenna) are not copy protected.

All of my digital channels are copy-protected. I can only TTG recordings from the analog (1-99) channels and the HD local network channels (NBC, ABC, FOX, etc.).

None of our broadcast channels have any copy protected content (as per the law). Beyond that, it is hit or miss.

To effect change: Check with the network first, to learn their intention, and get it in writing. Then provide that documentation to the cable system, with a request to comply with the network's wishes. If that doesn't work, have your local franchise board make the request on your behalf. The cable system can still elect to apply copy protection (except to the broadcast channel content), but other members have reported that faced with such documentation and support for the request from the local franchise board, they'll generally relent.

None of my channels have protection. I'm transferring two HD movies from Showtime right now. (for storage until this weekend as space on my TiVo is a little tight at the moment) But technically the only channels which can not have protection are those which are broadcast on public airwaves and covered under the "must carry" law for cable companies. All others are fair game.

We took an .avi with our digital camera. Bought Desktop plus. Shows up on TiVo has copy protected. Are the studios protecting me from myself? :)

And ideas?

Thanks!

No. It is in an AVI container but it is not DivX or Xvid, which are the only two things you can put in an AVI that will work. So instead of informing you that the movie is not a supported format, it is telling you they are copy protected. The Tivo desktop needs to either not even list the file, despite its AVI extension, or provide a different error or icon to let you know what the problem really is.

Thanks for your help. Sure wish TiVo was more friendly in this regard. I'm not pleased. I spent the $25 and thought I was getting more.
