My Series 3 has been acting very sluggish and now in a continuous reseting state since the upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2j. It gets to TiVo Central and you can see the background animation stutter. After a few minutes, it resets and starts the process over again. Earlier in the evening I was able to get to live TV, but now the TiVo central menu is unresponsive.

After two hours of being on hold, being disconnected and then finally reaching a level 2 tech, all I am being offered is to replace the unit, thus losing all the stored, but unwatched programs.

Have others had problems with the upgrade? Any suggestions on a hard reset without losing programs? Any other suggestions are appreciated.

it would appear these updates are causing more problems then in correcting the known issues...

If you can get a replacement it might be the course o action to take...

Can you transfer your recordings to your PC for storage?

I left the Series 3 unplugged overnight and restarted it this morning. For over two hours, it went through the "automatic reboot to unresponsive TiVo central" loop and then magically it came back to life and has been working for the past few hours.

Could it be a garbage collection gone bad? Some background process was taking a large amount of time and I wonder if somehow it would take more than 100% processor power and result in a stack overflow causing the reset. Who knows.

I'll post back if it happens again. If anyone else experiences this, try letting it cycle for many hours before resorting to a hard reset / unit swap.

Sounds like HDD problems and/or corrupted data. Sometimes the TiVo Diagnostics programs (click here (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=5643823&&#post5643823)) can clear things up.

I am having the same problem. It started right after the last software upgrade. It just keep rebooting. I tried every tick in the book, it was all a no go. I guess I could have reformat if I had had a image but I am under warranty and just let Tivo handle it. Hope I don't get a replacement that looks beat up, mine's looks showroom new, a real creampuff...

The warranty is the same as new and they've gone over it top to bottom so it should be fine.
