I had to reformat my PC after a power outtage messed things up.
Reformatted tonight and all installs went perfect until TIVO

I attempted to install and would get this:

There is a problem accessing c:\Documents and Settings\xxx \My Documents\My Tivo Recordings' folder
Error: the specified procedure could not be found
Please correct the problem or select a different folder

When I "selected a different folder" I got

There is a problem accessing the 'C:\New Folder' folder.
Error: the specified procedure could not be found
Please correct the problem or select a different folder

Then I couldnt get the error message off the system

I have uninstalled and reinstalled this 7 times and its now 2 am

I have checked my access code, my settings, my account everything

I am clueless now. HELP

Oh yes........

Windows XP
TIVO series 2

Best I can figure out is that it requires SP1 or is it SP2 on XP
which i have not installed and dont plan to.

So i use the older version which works just fine

Where can I find the older version (i.e. 2.3)? It's no longer on TIVO's website and 2.5.1 doesn't seem to work for me...

thanks-

I have 2.4a saved from 5/27/07 it is 13.7MB. I had the same trouble with the new download just over the weekend. I reinstalled the old one and it works fine. I guess I'll give them some time to figure the new one out!

The file is over 10mgs which is a problem to email. Most email programs limit the size of a file sent to 10mgs.

If you have either ICQ or Yahoo IM, I can possibly try sending you the file that way.

I am googling to see if there is another place to grab an older version

http://www.download.com

has Tivo Desktop 2.0

But let me see what I can do about getting my friend to host it on his site so you can pull it off there

XP Sp3 is coming out soon (running it right now). Maybe you can skip straight to it. ;)

IF not having SP1 or SP2 on XP then the new desktop will still present a problem for me.

Why are you not running SP2 on your XP box? That is so 2004. :)

I have quite a few computers, and this is the only one that doesnt have a licensed copy and is used for Tivo etc.

Yes I know about using a license copy on other machines.

Quick solution is to update Windows XP to SP2.
If the error occurs during install then another thing to try is updating your Windows Installer software.
My version is 3.1.4000.1823 although I've seen newer.
You can check the version by looking at the properties of MSIEXEC.EXE
in your Windows System32 folder.

"Error: the specified procedure could not be found" usually occurs because the version of some software is too outdated. The program code (procedure) is not found in the software running at the time. Being that we all have hi-tech computers you would think the messge would tell us something about what procedure is specified and from what program module. But then that would make it much easier to fix software problems.

Quick solution is to update Windows XP to SP2.

I got the impression he is running an "unlicensed" (aka pirated) copy and that is why he wasn't updating to SP2.

FYI, I forgot you cannot go straight to SP3 (RC1) without first installing at least SP2.
