Ok, this is an odd problem, and it might be so fact-specific that posting it here won't do any good, but I'm desperate.

Here goes. I have 2 cable boxes, one is a newer Comcast Motorola DVR, and the other is the older Comcast Motorola (large black box, not the new mini one). I split the cable feed coming out of the wall, and one goes to each box. From the Comcast DVR, I have an optical connection to my receiver. From the old Comcast black box, I have a coax connection to my Series 2 Tivo, and the tivo has a coax connection to the receiver.

On certain channels, specifically FX and Comedy Central, I get static mostly when people are talking. The same channels, and the same shows, do not exhibit the static when I watch (or record them) through the Comcast DVR (still with me? :D ).

I've had Comcast out multiple times for this problem, and their solution is always to replace the splitter, and scold me about using a splitter generally b/c it cuts down the signal, or whatever lame reason they like to give on that subject.

Just to make it more complicated, SOMETIMES when I watch a recording from one of these channels on Tivo, the static doesn't start right away on the show, and kicks in after 10 minutes or so. I've noticed this once in awhile when I'm watching shows live as well on Tivo.

I don't think it's the Tivo, b/c I just replaced the hard drive on it, and the problem didn't change. I'm about to replace the power supply as well, b/c of an irritating whine that it has been making since the hard drive replacement, but I doubt that will have an effect on this problem.

It's not the receiver, b/c as I said, it never happens when I go through the Comcast DVR, or with anything else (like DVDs, PS2, Wii...etc).

Could this just be the old Comcast box?

Does anyone have any suggestions, or has anyone seen a problem like this before? Thanks for any advice, this is driving me nuts when I watch South Park, It's Always Sunny or The Shield! :(

Oddly enough, I finally got around to replacing the power supply last night and that fixed it. So there you go.
