"Give me a break, give me a break, break me off a piece of that mmm mmm mmm. I'm drawing a blank here. ............Apple sauce."
"Break me off a piece of that apple sauce. I don't think..."
"A piece of that Chrysler car."
"Nope."
Football cream."
"That's it. It's football cream."

"I find the mystery genre disgusting. I hate being titillated."

"She said Oh, D."
"Oh D."
"oh D."
"OH D, HAHAHHHAHHAHAHHA" (If only Andy knew that Angela calls Dwight D.)

"Pam, please clear my phone lines."
"Ok. Beep beep boop beep beep beep. Ok, clear." :D

I liked when they were watching the ad, Dwight looked over at Angela and Angela looked down, it looked like she felt guilty. She and Dwight need to get back together, they are perfect for each other.

Their actual video was VERY cool. I was impressed!

Indeed.

Their ad was actually very good!

The corporate ad actually did suck!

I think something that we're seeing develop is that just as Michael is a demonstration of The Peter Principle in that he has risen to the level of his incompetence, Ryan has now risen to the level of his incompetence.

The ad that Michael directed was very good. Michael is an excellent salesman after all (just an incompetent sales manager). His ideas on how to sell are insightful and clever.

The ad that Ryan "delegated" sucked, demonstrating Ryan having risen to the level of his incompetence.

I'm awaiting the fate of Ryan. Michael has managed to survive as a manager despite his incompetence. Will Ryan survive as well, or being more under the microscope at corporate, will he get fired?

Best episode of the season, by far. This is another one of those I can watch over and over and over.

From Wikipedia, The Peter Principle:
A second complication is that entry-level jobs that are detail oriented and restrictive favour detail-oriented workers, yet hinder creative and innovative workers. By definition and necessity, entry-level jobs are the assembly line of an organization, and thus the most creative and innovative employees start in positions of incompetence. The detail-oriented persons are thus promoted over the creative employees. Often these creative employees are incapable of showing their work strengths because of the structured and restrictive assembly line environments, and then are tagged as bad employees.
In reality, creative employees may be more suited to management jobs, but, because they are unable to use their strengths in the low-level jobs they hold, they never rise to management, and the innate flexibility and innovation needed for managing is lost to the company. The end result for an organization as a whole is that the organization will collapse when incompetents in the ranks outnumber the competent, resulting in the organization's inability to produce results.

I liked the episode overall, but the Second Life segment felt more like product placement than anything relevant to the episode. I didn't find the SL segments humorous or beneficial to the episode at all.

I'm wondering if it's something where they're laying groundwork for a future episode, or just threw it in for the pop culture factor.

It seeemed a bit out of place to me too. But as I had actually never seen Second Life before (tried installing, but it says my video card isn't compatible) I found it interesting. :)

I liked it when Pam turned it around on Jim and commented more on his 2nd Life persona than on Dwight's. I also liked that Dwight was STILL just Assistant to the Regional Manager in 2nd Life. :D

I was waiting for Dwight to do a sale in Second Life. :)

While the corporate video was fairly lame, Michael's video was not without fault. Moving at the speed of time? Paperless world? And then the paper saying most creative boss. They definitely could have used a few script changes for that one, but overall more compelling than the corporate version. I loved how proud the creative team was of their ad.

My favorite line was Angela saying she doesn't like to be titillated. I lost it. Not only is the word funny, but the way Angela said it was great. I had to pause and kept laughing for a good minute.

In elementary school we used to sing that kit-kat song on the bus.

Obviously the homemade ad wasn't perfect. It was overreaching and pompous, and really didn't make much sense. It was like a mish-mash of all those financial and B2B commercials they show during golf on TV.

But it was still a whole lot better than the get-the-money-and-run hackjob that the ad agency made for corporate.

Yeah. Michael's ad was charming, and creative. But not unbelievably so! It really sold the "joy of paper." Whereas the corporate add was soulless and boring.

Michael's seemed too long though (that's what she said.)

Pam's animation... actually very good.

Anyone else notice that the secretary Ryan hired... looked quite a bit like Pam? :p

Oh, and the commercial director corporate sent over kinda looked like Bryanmc to me. :D

I did see a bit of friction between Jim and Pam. When Jim pointed out Dwight's "second second life" Pam's first reaction wasn't to make fun, but to note that Dwight "must be in a lot of pain" and then proceeded to make fun on Jim instead.

All in all, I loved this episode and thought it was the best of the season so far.

The commerical Michael made was good. Not a perfect commerical. But it showed real effort and care. So much better than just standing in the parking lot and waving at a camera.

Like DougF said, it reminds me of commericals I see on TV. Like for the "Jewelry Exchange". There is a stock commerical, then it closes with people standing in the store doing the "Girl on a float in a parade" wave. Each location of the chain just plugs in their wave scene. It's funny. I see these both in Dallas and Los Angeles.

Edit to add: The show is making me feel bad for Dwight. Congratulations, writers. You win.

I like that Michael's ad was not terrible, but still looked "homemade" and still had some Michael-eque touches that make you cringe (Stanley as the prison worker cleaning up litter? Phyllis as Dwight's mom?).

Definitely the best episode of the year - the show flows much better as a 1/2 hour show.

I wonder how much Kit Kat paid for the product placement, given they were never even mentioned, but it was successfully running through my head all night last night...

Of course, I don't play it, so that's probably a big part of it. And also because Dwight's second life was identical to his first (real) life. Except he could fly.

I found this episode to be really heart-warming. I loved watching them watch their commercial and really connect as a team. It was nice to see.

I don't usually count on crying when I watch The Office, but upon both viewings of this episode I found myself getting teary over the ad. Their commercial was so heartfelt and each one of them seemed so proud of their individual contribution. They managed to set aside their petty little daily grind aggravations and come together in a way that really hit me. They are becoming more and more like a family.

Another thing that really struck me was Dwight's transformation from a truly broken hearted man to an exuberant happy guy as he hears that Angela was moaning about "D". He's slumped up against the vending machine barely managing to hold on to life and over the span of two seconds his entire demeanor just transmogrifies his core essence from broken to on top of the world- great job Rainn!

I was also impressed by Michael's insistence on doing the job in house when he was on the phone to corporate. He was so effective and determined in his communication. I love it when Michael Scott succeeds. It's a true testament to Carell's talent that Micheal can be such a clueless jerk yet I continue to root for him to get it right.

Oh, so many funny moments. Andy's incredibly lame 'aromatherapy' joke, the 'you have a son, and it's me', the jingle that Darryl wrote... I find that's a thing the writers do occasionally (have someone in the office do something really well, and then of course Michael doesn't allow it).

RE: Jam, I think there might be issues there regarding the fact that Pam is working on her dreams, and Jim... well, Jim never has. But I think it would be very out of character for Jim to have problems with Pam over that -- just problems with himself.

Of course, Jim can't leave Dunder-Mifflin, or else the show is gone, so I doubt he will ever resolve his problems. Until the series finale, I guess.

I was one of the diehard 'the show is great in a 45 minute block' supporters, but I have to admit, this has been the best episode of the season by far. Definitely heartwarming, still hilarious, and always interesting. Yay for The Office!

Even if he did, considering that the only portion of the commercial that wasn't "stock" was the overhead pullback of the Scranton crew waving to the camera, it probably didn't cost all that much.

In any case, since Michael's declared bankruptcy, DM will just have to get in line behind all the other creditors in order to collect. :D

I thought the corporate ad wasn't that bad concept wise, but the execution was horrible. The end should have shown the guy going to DM and getting lots of friendly help. But instead, we just see a shot of the outside of their building and then their employees waving? Are we to believe that Big Box Paper couldn't film their people waving in the parking lot?

I also thought the second life thing must be a fake version of some real game. Guess I was wrong.
