Harvesting Series 1 drives - saving shows

I have a dual drive Series 1 that is collecting dust at the moment. I'd like to take the drives out and use them in a computer. However, there are 3-4 recordings that I'd like to retain. Can I just plug the drives into a computer and copy the .tivo files? Could I then use TiVo Desktop to upload the files to a Series 2 box?

They aren't "Files" as they sit on a Tivo drive, but clumps of data linked together by a database. You could pull individual recordings, but that is extraction, and OT here. Once you get them from the drive however you manage to, you can use TD to serve them to a Series 2.

If it is only a couple programs, just record them to the Series 2's A/V input, from the Series 1's A/V output, or to some other capture device.
