View Full Version : Sound issues since 9.1

Ever since the 9.1 (and I signed up for 9.2, which I got) I have been having no sound over optical connection on my Onkyo TX-777. The weird thing is, I get it always on live, and many dolby D programs that are recorded. However, if I play a PCM only recorded program, it's silent. If I change the sound type (like to direct stereo and back) nothing happens, still silent.
If I change to video 2, then back, the sound works.
What is this?

I called Tivo, and their systems crashed when I called, so the guy couldn't help me. Apparently they'll have to send a new box out since this sound issue is known, and if 9.2 isn't working then it is the box..Since it's likely a hardware thing that's the problem with the tivo.
Yeah, I can't believe it either, but that's what I've just been told.

Well, I got the same guy and he insisted that I get a replacement and put down a deposit for the MSRP price of an S3 to fix this glaring software issue.
And he said that I'm SOL if I want to break my contract with them because of buggy software upgrades that cripple my system.
I've had one other bad experience like this, with Samsung and their DLP's. I've had Tivo's since my S1.. I dumped Directv to stay with Tivo. Now I'm wondering if I made the right choice at all.

Tivopony or whoever, I am told that to fix this now after a patch failure: I have to pay $50 for the new box, and a $799 deposit, and shipping to Tivo.
