I've been on this forum for exactly 2 hours, and I'm already in the black.
I recently bought two S3's. one from BB and the other directly from tivo. as they were both $599 AFTER rebates, I figured that must be the best price.
I see threads this a.m. and ads from the Tivo community store for S3's at $399 AFTER rebates
I am going to call Tivo to set up a return, but ask if they will match the Tivo community price to save me the trouble. BB, I'm sure I will just have to return it w/o a price match as the community store is the internet.
now the hard decision: Am i up to the challenge of going through another TW cable card installation fiasco for 4 new cable cards?
thanks folks!
I'll save you more. Return them and get two TiVoHD boxes instead of the S3's. They are $249. You can send me a check for the additional $300 saved. Just send me a PM for my address information.

Before you do I would add the Tivo Service Numbers from your boxes to the 9.2 Priority Page so you can get 9.2 which is supposed to fix some issues with Scientific Atlanta CableCards.
http://www.tivo.com/priority/
Then AFTER you get 9.2 set up your appointment to get the cards installed. That might help things a bit.

I actually have a TivoHD upstairs. I just like the S3's too much to exchange them for HD's in my home theater room. the S3 remote is not only backlit, I like it's operation MUCH better. i can move through menu items much quicker-does not require as much key press effort as the standard unit. Plus i think the front display that tells me what is recording in very nice amber letters is just too cool...

excellent idea! I put my current service numbers on the site, but will add my news ones when I pick up the unit, so hopefully, I will have 9.2j before the new cable cards are installed.
actually, the SA cards Time Warner used worked perfectly(they only use multi-stream cards). It was just a couple of tries to get the folks at the command center to understand how to properly pair the card and the Tivos...
thanks!

CC is selling them for $599 minus $200 rebate, net $399. Take your receipt back to BB have them call CC to verify, and you should get the $200 from them without returning the box.

Circuit City has them for $599.99.
You can get a 10% off coupon good at Circuit City from AAA: http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=558473&dealalertmsgfinal=1
That brings the cost down to $539.99 each before rebate or $339.99 each after rebate.
