Awhile back, I mistakenly thought I had a bad power supply on my S1 (HDR212), and so I ordered a new one from 9thTee. Now that I've confirmed that my old power supply wasn't the problem, I'm thinking of returning the power supply to 9th Tee. But they charge a 25% restocking fee, plus I have to pay return shipping. Assuming they're not going to refund the original shipping, since I originally paid $25 + $7.95 shipping, this means if I can ship back for say, $7.00, that means I'll probably get back 75% * $25 = $18.75, but if it costs me $7 to ship it back, that means I only stand to get back $11.75 net.
I was wondering if I should keep it as a spare part or not. It turns out I'm going scrap the S1 and buy a TiVo HD to replace it, so my two active TiVos are going to be an S2 and a TiVo HD. Is the power supply compatiable with either of those models? If it's not, I have no reason to hang on to the power supply, and I may as well recover $11.75 for it by returning it.
By the way, they stipulate that if there's any damage, they will charge me for the damage. I handled it very carefully when I installed it, so I don't think I damaged it, but they also mention that bad motherboards can ruin the power supply, so hopefully that didn't happen. It still seems worth try to return it though, unless I have a future use for it.
