So I'd like to upgrade my TiVos, and I have access to a Windows computer. I could do the power-down/plug the drives into IDE ports/power-up/use MFSLive method, or I could use USB-to-IDE adapters and WinMFS -- or any combination thereof. I have plenty of experience with hardware, so master/slave and jumper concepts don't scare me.
What I'm curious about, and haven't seen (found, really) any discussion of, is doing an upgrade using a Linux box. I'm currently running PCLinuxOS on my primary PC and I'm wondering if I could use the USB adapter(s), plop the MFSLive CD in the drive, and just run the necessary commands from a terminal window. I suppose I could reboot to the CD if I really had to, but... well... would I have to?
If this is redundant, could someone please point me to a thread on doing the whole shebang in a true Linux environment?
