Let's say I buy a Tivo and sign it up for a 1-year agreement. Then after two months, I decide that I want to go with the 3-year agreement. If I call Tivo, will they let me switch to the 3-year price for the remaining 34 months and pay the difference?
Also, would there be any additional problems if this is a second (or third) Tivo and I want to use the MSD to pay the reduced rate?

No, you have to complete your initial commitment, regardless if it is your first, a bundle, prepay, or an MSD TiVo. Or pay the early termination fee.

Even if I want to EXTEND my plan? That's pretty dumb on Tivo's part.

You should call Tivo and ask. The contractually correct answer might be no, you can't, but they might also say okay.
You know the saying... "You have not because you ask not."
