Sorry if I missed the existing thread.
Not quite sure what to think just yet. The intro of Supergirl just seems so... rushed. Figured it would be a couple of episodes before we got the full scoop (Zor-El vs Jor-El, etc) instead of the close of Act 2. Laura V certainly is adorable when she smiles though. :)
While I think I like this episode as a whole, I think so many of the plot threads opened here (Lana, Lois, the new editor at the DP) are going to really suck...
I'll give it a  for now, but I can see how this is the beginning of the end of my run watching this show...

It was a pretty good episode. The Supergirl stufff is alright I guess. I like Lois working at the Daily Planet, it's about time. I don't really care about the Lex and Lana story line anymore. I wish they would have shot each other and been done with it.

I thought the timing of Supergirl's ship being taken was suspicious, but then them opening the ship and obtaining the crystal was just taking it too far. Who is feeding the Department of Domestic Security enough information to be able to pull this kind of thing off? Something stinks somewhere. I suppose the major arc this season will be getting the crystal back and then taking it to the fortress of solitude for playback.
I really hope the Lois vs. Chloe storyline has a big payoff. Chloe has been off her game since he learned Clark's secret. She's having to cover up too much now.
Like everyone else, I don't care what they do to the Lana storyline. Please kill her off.
I expect Lex will meet Kara very soon. She can't really hide living on the farm alone with Clark unless she comes and goes at superspeed.

All we need now is a Kara/Lois makeout scene and ill never complain about Smallville again.

I thought Supergirl was one of the worst actors I've seen on the show (that that includes Lana). Not real hopeful for this storyline. In the comics did Kal-El or crystal Jor-El think Kara was evil? That seemed weird.

Ugh... read next week's show description. Can it sink that far so fast?

Ugh. You're right, how could they do this after the show was almost going in a good direction? Here is the preview for next week if you want to read it. If you want to look forward to next week, don't read it.
Kara (Laura Vandervoort) desperately wants to make friends and fit in on Earth, but Clark (Tom Welling) tells her to keep a low profile until she can get her powers under control.
Despite his warnings, when the "Miss Sweet Corn" beauty pageant comes around, Kara signs up and meets the competition - Tyler (Eva Marcille), Carly (Elisa King) and Tempest (Christine Chatelain) - three meteor-infected vixens who plan to use their powers to steal a treasure map to the hidden Smallville time capsule.
After Tyler witnesses Kara using her powers, the girls pretend to be her friends, but are really planning to use her for their devious plan.

I wonder if they base when to air episodes that are strictly T&A episodes vs episodes that are sappy lana stories vs superhero episodes on the lunar cycle? Do men have an equivalent of synchronized periods?

What was up with Clark and Kara's conversation in the barn?
(paraphrased)
KARA: Krypton can't be gone! It feels as though I was there, just moments ago.
CLARK: Tell me about my family.
KARA: My memory of the past is hazy...

I don't think that's quite how it went down.
They tried to open the ship, but instead set off the self-destruct sequence.
The ship exploded. However, the crystal can only be destroyed by a kryptonian. So after the ship exploded, the crystal was left behind. It was sort of handed to them on a silver platter - the explosion destroyed everything else, so the only "wreckage" left was the crystal.

That was my take on what happened, too. Which begs the question: what genius designed such a crazy-stupid self-destruct mechanism, anyway? Hmmm... someone is trying to break into the ship. Let's have the ship destroy itself, leaving behind the most valuable part for the taking... I guess it makes sense, if the crystal isn't normally contained within the ship. Very unfortunate the way things worked out, in that case.

Why didn't she and Clark see the crystal immediately after the explosion? There was no wreckage and even Lois appeared to be uninjured by the proximity of the blast.

That's because Kara contained the blast.
By waving at it from above.
Um...
Maybe the waving made the crystal, um, temporarily invisible?

They extracted the crystal before the els got there.
Which makes no sense because it would have exploded already. It was only after Lois touched it that it decided "oh, I better blow up!"
Skeletor absorbed the explosion, which was just a beam of something.
Maybe they just didn't hear the klunk of the crystal after it dropped... super-selective-hearing.

I view it slightly differently.
1) Bad guys get the ship open.. using... magical rotating red laser beams?
2) Bad guys grab crystal, the self destruct timer starts, alarm goes off
3) Kara gets to the ship just in the nick of time, sees the kryptonian timer counting down to almost zero, floats over the ship and.. umm. makes it disintegrate instead of exploding.
Of the above - #2's really the most believable part of the entire story...

Methinks the U.S. Department of National Security is being run by a Zoner.
The "evil Supergirl" subplot definitely is taken from current DC Comics continuity. The "Lex loves Supergirl" subplot goes back to post-"Crisis on Infinite Earths" continuity, which has since been retconned out of existence.

Skeletor....yikes! In partial profile shots though, I can see where the nickname comes from!
So when Kara and Clark first meet, they basically run into each other and Clark gets thrown a quarter of a mile through the forest (very nicely done by the way), but Kara doesn't notice that he's not injured? It took her a long time to realize that he was Kal-El!

She probably thought he was just another Kryptonian. (Don't forget that Kryptonians had been visiting Earth for centuries.) She didn't know then who he was or that Krypton was gone.

But when she met him again later she seemed surprised that he had powers and even said something like humans can't move that fast who are you.

Twenty years ago the Kryptonian Supergirl was erased from Superman's history, but recently a spaceship crashed in Gotham City (yeah...GOTHAM), and when Superman showed up the blonde teenaged girl who'd come out of it was found to be babbling away in Kryptonian...and demonstrating all of his powers.
Kara was reintroduced, now a part of current continuity.
When she was exposed to black kryptonite, tho', the evil Supergirl that appeared claimed Kara had amnesia, and that Zor-El had sent her to Earth to KILL baby Kal-El. (Similar to Smallville, her ship had run into trouble, and she arrived when Superman was full grown.)
To this day we don't really know if the evil Kara was lying or not. The regular Kara says she doesn't care if her father had sent her to do wrong, she's making her own choices and will be a hero.
Not much later Superman lost his powers, and during the year that he was without them, Kara made a name for herself replacing him and doing a good job of it.

According to people at DC, the Matrix Supergirl who was in love with Lex may NOT have been erased from continuity.
We've already seen in flashbacks that in the revised continuity bald Lex (not the full-head-of-hair cloned body "Lex Jr.") was the source of the human half of Kon-El's DNA.
Not that hard to imagine a bald Lex being there when Matrix's ship landed, and her seeing in his face the face of her creator, the not-bald Lex of the Pocket Universe. (It was the face of the bearded "Lex Jr." that aroused her love in the original continuity...and except for the hair and beard, the face would have been the same...a face identical to the Pocket Universe Lex.)

They must have one hell of a code-breaking super computer if it can not only crack an encyphered lock, but one encyphered in an alien language.

Since this is speculation based on guest star information I read elsewhere, I'll spoiler it to be safe:
With James Marster due to return at some point this season, I think we'll discover that Brainiac has taken over part of the government in order to use it's resources to get his hands on Kara's crystal...
Hmmm... that wasn't supposed to sound quite so dirty! <grin>

That's one crazy car alarm. Someone tries to steal your car(ship) so you have a nuclear bomb go off. That'll learn those damn tweakers to try and still your stereo!
