Planning to downgrade cable - setup before or after?

I have a series2 DT, and it is my first time using TiVo, so there is a lot I don't understand about how it works! I plan to downgrade to Limited Basic Cable (only local channels) as soon as my TiVo is set up and ready to take over for my current Comcast DVR. Should I wait until the cable is downgraded to put in all my season passes and stuff? Or will TiVo get confused when the available channels change, and fail to record my shows?

I realise the cable box is another issue, but I have been trying to set the TiVo up in a room that doesn't have one (only has Basic Cable, which is different from Limited Basic), so that I can do as much setting up as possible in advance.

Just tell it you have basic cable now.

Also remember that if you set up a season pass for a channel that won't be available on "limited Basic", the channel won't be there for the TiVo to record. (It won't even be in the TiVo's list of channels.)

To be clear, rerunning Guided Setup does not harm your season passes.
