With the summer break, I guess I was just ready for a new season and perhaps somewhat a new start for the series. Not a bad episode as it sets up several things for the new season.

Some interesting set-ups, but it all seemed a little half-hearted. Or maybe my watching was just half-hearted, not sure. Definitely did not have the same tension as the first season. I really don't like the Bellick is still around. I get it, this is his comeuppance, but having him utterly humiliated and beaten doesn't make me gleeful, just sad.
I'm glad T-Bag is still out there and being evil and weasley.
When they started bringing the dead bodies out I thought it would be a great plan then when they got shot again I decided not so much :D
I did not expect to see LJ again after the end of last season when he said he was happy in Seattle (or wherever he was).
I liked Lincoln asking casually if they found "anything else" in the water - oh, just a bag with some money.

I found it laughable there was an organization well funded enough to kidnap LJ from the US but not have the capability to break someone out of a Panamanian prison, but that is why I watch. No, really, in all seriousness, I like that they are trying to actually put some spin on the breakout other than he wants to get himself out. What will make it really interesting is to see how the writers have him pull this one off without rehashing a too-familiar feel.

It came off as a very contrived situation. I'm not ready to delete the season pass, but as the new season gets underway I expect this show will move to the bottom of the must-watch list in favor of just about everything.
If Bellick doesn't find some (opaque) clothing by the end of the third episode, I will cancel the season pass.

Didn't have the same draw as the first time around. At least we are somewhat familiar with an American prison, and what goes on there. This time, we get Mad Max Beyond Panama, "Two men enter, one man leaves."

It didn't have the excitement of the first season premiere nor the intensity of the second, but I'm still enjoying it. Since they have free reign of the prison, other prisoners notwithstanding, it will be interesting to see how they go about planning the break and who ends up joining the party.

How pathetic was the "aerial" shot of the prison? It was so easy to tell it was a miniature and the camera operator was shaking the camera to simulate a helicopter shot. It reminded me of the "miniature" episodes from CSI last year. Maybe they had the same guy build the prison that build the CSI miniatures.
While the first season was the television equivalent of a comic book, at least it was novel. This whole new story line (from an inmate run prison to a secret organization forcing one inmate to break out another) is just plain silly. It almost makes some of the plots from "24" look credulous.

I guess I am with the majority here.... the ep left something to be desired. Like some others, I like the angle they took with Michael not necessarily finding a way to get himself out but more getting another guy out to save Sara and LJ.
We shall see. I am not going to be to quick to delete my SP like some others here. I think the show still has some worth and I think it will continue to build the story in the coming eps.

Also, they have Sara but conveniently don't show her?
I did not see Sarah in the opening credits. I wonder if she'll be a phantom character this season, or if they left her out intentionally until her status is confirmed so as not to spoil the plotline.
I liked it.
There were little things I really liked, many of which obviously point to what will be part of Michael's plan.
I loved the Spanish version of All Along the Watchtower that was playing.
I liked the long camera looks at the grates that go to the outside.
I liked the Nun! :D
I liked the scene where the dead bodies came out (not that a dead body is a good thing, but it seemed like Michael had this glint in his eye that said something like "playing dead" was the only way to outside the doors).
I liked the imagery of Linc coming to the fence to talk to Michael, a la the other way around in season 1.
I did not like seeing Bellick. Enough of him already.
I did not like how easily T-bag became "in" with the leader guy in the prison.
Did I mention I liked the nun?!?!
It will at least be very entertaining to me, even if it has Lost some of it's originality.

By what I had seen the actress that was playing Sara is definitely out of the series. I believe they are slated to wrap up that plotline over the early part of the season, but it was being debated if she'd actually be back to help in that effort.

Meh.
My wife hated the very dark tone of this episode and hopes it's not a harbinger of the whole season. I had a hard time disagreeing.
I also found a lot of the dialog in the prison hard to follow with the accents.
Really put off that T-bag is that guys lap dog in like 30 seconds, that seemed way too easy get him on the side opposite Michael.
Kill LJ now. All he brings is trouble to his family.

I really enjoyed it. From what I can tell. For a normal non-weasel this prison seems like it would a little safer than the other one.
Wife and I both liked it. I have hated the whiney little LJ from the beginning. Just a pissy crying little pansy. Never contributed positively to the story.
And yes, that Nun could convert me anytime.

The rest of the show wasn't much better. The lack of an overall story direction has me a bit concerned. A replay of season one doesn't interest me at all.

Well I guess I'm in the minority but I liked it. Not as exciting as some in the past but better than a lot of shows. I loved the Spanish version of All Along the Watchtower. Whistler having Belleck put notes on both bodies so his message got out no matter the winner was clever. They went out of their way to not show Sara but why did they have the whole Michael pining for her if she isn't going to show up ? LJ being captured would be enough motivation for him without Sara.

The thing that bothered me about the overhead shot was that this place appeared to be out in the middle of nowhere, but I could have sworn that when Michael went in during the season finale last year, it was more of a storefront looking entrance along a street in town.
Overall I liked it. Definitely didn't have the tension of the first season, but it set up a good direction for the season, and will be interesting to see how it pans out.

I'm surprised at how much reading this upset me! I would be really, really disappointed to have Sara just disappear without being back for a few episodes. And to have her die would be really tough. I think because Michael is so intense in his feelings for her that it would be heartbreaking to give her up. I didn't mind so much when she was almost-dead at the end of season 1, but he went through so much angst over her last season, it would be crushing to have her gone.
Veronica I was glad to get rid of.
And I agree with the comments on the overhead shot. Really bad. I almost never notice stuff like that, I'm an oblivious kind of viewer, but it was obvious even to me. Compared to the great shots of Joliet the last two seasons, it was no good.

Oh yeah! Everyone else is shirtless and sweating their a**es off and he's walking around in a shirt and long sleeve black sweatshirt! What a joke! They really backed themselves into that corner from episode 1. "Hey, we have a problem. We can never have Michael with short sleeves or else we'll need to spend X hours in makeup putting the tattoos on."
I guess since we only saw the back of sara's head, that means she's gone for this season..

How soon do you think it'll be revealed that the tattoo was actually a chemically modified ink mixture that's got a limited lifetime and will suddenly begin to break down and flush out of his system.

No, no, silly. Michael will get burned in a horrible fire, thus causing burns all over his body. The scars will cover the tatoos, and then one of the other inmates will treat the burns with a magical mix of roots and berries. This will heal the burn scars and Michael will be back to normal. :D

Compared to last year the picture quality was a lot more noisy and film grain. I still have the final and went back to see for sure, and yeah its quite different. It's OTA and that is one of the best stations I get, so I doubt they caused it. Yes it is on a 110" screen but I would be able to see the difference on just about any size.
It actually looks a little more like 24, especially in dark scene's. Oh well maybe that was just this first show or they're going for a different look this year, one that I don't like.

I think that it has been a week max since MariCruz (and her mom) were stashed by Bellick. Sucre and Bellick spent a day or two in Mexico looking for T-Bag then went down to Panama were they ran into Michael. Craziness ensues and between that point and the start of season 3, only two days or so have passed in Panama. Bellick said she had enough food to last for two-three weeks I think.

Except I'm not convinced that Belleck told the truth when he said he kidnapped Maricruz.
Maricruz and the aunt could have been out somewhere else and when Sucre showed up, Bellick improvised to keep him under control.
I don't think Bellick offed them though. He's pretty scummy but I don't think he's a cold blooded killer.

This whole new story line (from an inmate run prison to a secret organization forcing one inmate to break out another) is just plain silly. It almost makes some of the plots from "24" look credulous.
I'm way late to this party - I've been waiting for a friend who just finished Season 2 on DVD today - but I wanted to chime in about this since I didn't see it mentioned: the inmate run prison is, I'm fairly certain, inspired by this place in Brazil (since the mid-90s, I think) where that very thing happened - major riot caused the officials to evacuate and inmates ran the joint. Not sure what the (real life) finale to that scenario was though but I remember there was something on National Geographic (or was it the Discovery Channel?) about the whole thing.
Personally, I had very low expectations for this season (the setup from the end of season 2 seemed liked a total rehash) but, though I'm in the minority here, I think this season will be excellent.
I really enjoyed 'meeting' all the new characters. Good to see homie from The Wire on this. :)
