Simple question for DVR owners (TiVo or otherwise ;) )
Do you feel you watch more or less TV than before you got your DVR?
Edit- Poll was added 9/26/07. Please come back and post if you hit this thread before the poll was added. This is a fun one!
Posts #1-40 were up before the poll was added.

Definitely more.
Pre-TiVo/DVR, it was so much of a chore to program VCR's, rotate tapes, keep track of tapes and watch recorded tapes.
Now it's too easy, just schedule a SP or two (or 40x3) and watch at my leisure.
I find myself watching shows I wouldn't have bothered with back in the VCR days.

I would guess probably more shows, however the time used is more efficient as I can watch on my schedule and also zip past the commercials.

More TV in much less time. Baseball game now takes less than 2 hours. Jeapordy takes 17 minutes. Six o'clock news (one hour show) takes 15 minutes. Etc.

Less. Definitely.

Less bad TV but more in total. I don't surf for something to watch any longer, simple watch what I want when I want.
I watch less. No more tv as background noise, no more watching crap cause there's nothing else on.

Less.. I can watch the show I taped when there's nothing good on TV. Before TiVo, If I'm boring then I watch a show I didn't care.

More TV. I use to miss episodes and not care. Now they are all sitting there lined up for me to watch.

Definitely more. There's always something on the TiVo that I like watching and want to watch. Not necessarily a good thing...

wow, a lot of caveats here, but the summary: The same amount, but smarter
My hours in a day are the same, and I might even watch a tick less in number of minutes due to skipping commercials, but the same number of shows.
However the biggest change is that I never channel surf for something on, I always have something I want to watch waiting for me with 2 Tivos

Less, because I spend all my time on TCF instead.

Much more. Being forced to sit through a non-TiVo experience makes you want to walk away.

This would have been a good poll (thought I suspect it's been done before)
Without question.....more.......(unless I figure in all the commercials I miss, then subtract those minutes from all the extra minutes of programming I watch because of TiVo....then multiply by.....oh.....never mind.....

More. I still leave HGTV on in the background on the weekends, and anything that was on after 10pm never used to get watched. We only had one VCR, so we really had to pick and choose, plus we often missed stuff because tape labeling was a bear. With the TiVo we just let it record stuff and watch when we can. The only thing I have to do is manage the season passes a bit to make sure stuff that only shows once has higher priority than stuff that repeats.

+1
And I'll add that with the ability to xfer shows to my computer for extra storage, it's easy to keep track of and watch more shows.

Same here recently. I think that'll change when the new shows start.

More: I am on top of new shows, catch a lot more movies (pay channels only, as "edited for time and content" bugs me), but definitely more.
And sports is much more of a "when I feel like it" rather than "when it is on" type of thing. Can't wait for hockey season, hoping for tons of HD!!!

I watch for about the same amount of time, but I enjoy it much much more.

with a DVR I watch better (at least from my perspective ;)) TV and do not miss out on so many new things since I have 4 tuners on the main TV and just setup all the new shows to see what I want to actually watch and what I will just delete

I would have to say more. Because of my work schedule everything is time shifted and I find myself watching TV at fairly weird times. Also I have found that by skipping commercials and grouping episodes together I watch/enjoy some series I wouldn't even both watching without a DVR.
Thanks,

More!
First, there's a big time investment in TiVo altogether! Wishlists, suggestions, checking out all the various time-wasters/spenders that come with TiVo, much more hyperfocus on TV WITH TiVo.
Next, I have to either watch the things recorded, worry about getting a bigger disk (usual male obsession), or clean up the Now Playing list.
All-in-all, much more time in watching much more television, and much more time invested in planning what to watch.
And, natch, I MUST watch after all the money I have spent!
Before TiVo -- none of this mattered, even though the content was more meaningful!!
And YOU??? How has YOUR viewing changed??

Less TV but with more intention. I must add a caveat; I got my TiVo roughly the same time I had my first baby, and now we have 2 little ones, so my TV time is diminished with or without TiVo. I do not think I'd watch TV at all right now without the aid of a dvr. I like to think I watch better TV because of TiVO. No more grazing or surfing. Just a few programs (6 or 7 between hubby and me) on SP and specials here and there. A few movies. 47 episodes of Little Bear ( 3 1/2 year old). That reminds me, I need to burn those to disk and get my space back! :) I *love* my TiVo.

This sums me up exactly. I watch way way way more than when I had to manually set recordings every day-that process started taking up to 20 minutes a day, and was no fun at all.

I smell a poll coming here. ;)
We watch more TV, but as others have said, only what we want to watch.
The other day I visited a friend who is "TiVo challenged" and we watched some "normal" TV. We had to wait for one of his favorite shows to come on and then fifteen minutes in I felt like jumping up and running screaming from the room! "How on earth can you watch all of those commercials?!" I half shouted. "I dunno, I don't watch much TV so it doesn't bother me I guess." he said. Aurgh!!! I told him I couldn't bear it and headed out to rent a video. I may be forced to either buy him a TiVo or only agree to see him when he visits the wife and me!

I'd saw I watch just as much as before, the difference is now I feel like I get more quality viewing, and have more time to do what I want, when I want to do it. If I want to go out, I can go out and not feel like I"m missing an important episode of a favorite series. If I have 40 minutes to wait until a planned activity, then I can fit in the one hour show that I may otherwise of had to plan around. It is just so convenient that I don't know how I'd live without Tivo.

Question: Do you feel you watch more or less TV than before you got your DVR?
[ ]I watch more TV and my waistline growing
[ ]I watch less TV and annoy my family more
[ ]I watch more sitcoms and my I.Q. dropping
[ ]I watch more PBS shows and my friends disappearing
[ ]I watch my wife roll her eyes when I proclaim "My TiVo gets me!"

I've found it's about the same. More good television, less bad television, no ads. It all works out to to about the same amount of time spend watching.

More shows; less time.

I watch about the same amount. Definitely smarter / better since I'm watching only what I want, and not Just Whatever Happens To Be On.
Of interest; I occasionally will find myself saying "There's nothing left on TiVo I want to watch (or have time to watch)" so I'll actually turn it off and go do something else.

I definitely watch more since I got my Tivo. I thought I watched a lot with the original hard drive then I got an upgrade with up to 200 hours. I have so many shows that I've gotten into (SG-1, The Shield, etc.) because I could catch repeats at times I wouldn't normally be able to watch. I seem to record anything that looks remotely entertaining. I just moved last week and for 2 days I didn't have my Tivo and watching regular TV was no where near as satisfying.

(bump)Why would you think that? According to a lot of other folks here...mostly the one's that are complaining about something or other being wrong with TiVo, there must be only about two-dozen, maybe three dozen of them all together. Makes perfect sense to me! ;)
