So, I just watched this last night on tivo. I thought the mile high thing was like sex on a plane or such? I was waiting for the sex.
The breakfast challenge was not really exciting. Been there done that. Or such like that. Seeing CJ in his ratty tee shirt didn't impress me.
Now the airline food gig was pretty neat. They had to stop and think out timing. And it doesn't seem many top chefs do. I liked Haungs reasoning about the fish staying moist/not drying out. Though it seems some of the fish did dry out.
Can Bryan cook anything without it having lobster in it? I would like a challenge like that - must use food you don't normally use. Like lobster would be off limits for Bryan and spicy texas off limits to Casey and such.
I would not be surprised if the three that were up for best food at this challenge are not the top three in a few weeks. Dale, Bryan and CJ just haven't made me go wow. I am rooting for Sara and Haung now.
A nice twist on this challenge would have been if the chefs got to eat some airplane food while on their way there. Without knowing the challenge, but able then to look back at their meal experience.
I watched an episode of Dinner Impossible and was impressed with how that Top Chef handles the kitchen and the menu decisions and bang bang bang, the dinner is put out. Wouldn't it be fun to have him come visit and do a challenge.

The title was "Snacks on a Plane."
I can think of worse ways to start a day than to get woken up by Padma and cooking her breakfast.

CJ sure didn’t seem to mind it! I loved his reaction.

He shouldn’t have in this episode. The lobster’s texture (“like a Doll Head” – AB, LOL) was the main reason he was in the bottom 3.
I was sorry to see CJ go. Not so much for his cooking, but I enjoyed his positive attitude and sarcasm/sense of humor. But when Chef Colicchio called his vegetable "the worst dish we have had in the three years of this competition", you knew he was probably out.

Anyone else want to a see a version of "Celebrity Top Chef" where all these visiting chefs, and Colicchio would have to do these same challenges?
I think it would be very interesting as I suspect a good portion of the judges would do very poorly.

I wanted Brian to go this time. 'seems like he's had a bunvh of chances and blew it more than once. CJ is a better chef.

I really want tos ee Padma in something other than a sleeveless/cap sleeve shirt. I think she shows off that scar. It's one thing to not hide it, it's another thing to constantly show it off. Just seems weird.

Yeah, when Collichio said CJ's was the worst ever, he had to go. Poor CJ. He had so much to offer.

I say, bring back Howie. I'll get an online petition going. Those always work.
I'd join the mile high club with Casey.

Me too.
They seem to really showcase Padma's body but hide Casey's. I wonder what that's about.
Well, Padma is there for her looks, and Casey is there for her cooking. I'm glad they are not focusing on the female competitors' looks instead of the competition. (It's not Survivor, after all! :D ) Those giant chef coats aren't exactly cut for sexiness, anyway.
Casey seems to be doing really well as the competition moves forward. I am having a little trouble taking her seriously when I look back to the onion it took her 15 minutes to dice, though.

That's why real chefs have prep cooks. :D
but yeah, seriously. I think my knife work is better, and I'm just a home cook. But Man! Can Hung dispatch a chicken! :)

It wasn't the title of the episode, but it was something like that in the description.
I think Casey might be one of those girls who has a pretty face, but maybe under that coat she's pretty square? They haven't showed her in a bikini in a hot tub yet, right?

I know, he was crazy fast. Wow!
Based on that episode I think my knife skills might be better than Casey's too, at least in the limited arena of dicing an onion. And ever since that episode, I wonder about that every single time I am cutting one up! I wish I could invite Casey over and find out for sure. :D

Well, Padma is there for her looks... I'm a little surprised at this one-dimensional observation. She's a real foodie, and wrote a book which came out eight years ago, and has another one coming out soon.

Anyone ever eat in one of Collichio's restaurants?
I am going to be in Vegas next week and decided I have to try CraftSteak. Reviews I have seen have not been stellar, but I still have to check it out.

Wow, I don't remember seeing that.
To quote Seinfeld:

Good point, my language was probably too strong. I do think she is partly there for her looks, especially given that the host she replaced also was an attractive female, but it was an overstatement to say that's the only reason.

Was it just me or was Padma clearly stoned during the quickfire challenge? :D
I can't believe none of the chefs made coffee! If I had a surprize 6 am test in a kitchen, I would definitely have to take the time to do that!
